WHAT? What The Hell Happened Here?

Re: WHAT? What The Hell Happened Here?

Careful where you stomp

Looks like someone didn't like the baby tube

Isn't that the photo of the one that was on sale on the Trading Post? As I recall, the person stated that they cut a hole in the case to accommodate a different tube.

This unit isn't for sale. Yes I did punch a hole in the side to accommodate an octal preamp tube. That is a 6SL7 tube which is a 70 on the Mu scale. Glad I did it because it sounds excellent. Sometimes I kinda do my thinking out-of-the-box, pun intended.

Re: WHAT? What The Hell Happened Here?

glad it works for you but id break that on the first gig

I figure it would be pretty easy to jury rig a steel cage around the tube to make things a bit safer for accidental bumps.

Re: WHAT? What The Hell Happened Here?

It looks like the collector is jacked up.

It's only a collector if I no longer wanted it. This unit sounds excellent and it isn't going anywhere. I have just come across BK Butler Real Tube pedal and I have another Blue Tube pedal on the way. The only mods I will do to them are adding a 5814A (a military version of a 12AU7)

Excuse me, perhaps I should have said, Getter, inside the tube. It just looks like it's out of place in the picture. I wasn't talking bad about you, man. Lol!

Re: WHAT? What The Hell Happened Here?

I imagine many would scratch their head on some of my "out-of-the-box" thinking projects (pun intended) but I always wanted to try an octal preamp tube in a tube preamp/ overdrive pedal. I still need to create a cage around the tube.

I love that type of thinking. Any sound clips?

Re: WHAT? What The Hell Happened Here?

Okay....don't laugh. I don't know how to provide clips and not sure I own the equipment for it.
I'm going to; you can hack a different valve and socket type into a pedal but don't know how to do clips [ a short sound recording ] ? your kidding aren't you ?

[Sigh....] Naw.....it's true. I'm old school (meaning I'm 59) I own a Macbook Pro, I know I have Garage Band......just never plugged into it. I never record when I'm jonesin' for tone, just mainly plugging in and playing along with CDs in my back room. I do need to learn how to record clips.....any help would be most appreciated. Here is a photo of a photo taken during a really cool day after spending time with a tone hero of mine and my friend (who is a personal friend of Seymour and who took the photograph) This photo was taken outside the San Antonio Winery in Los Angeles and we were standing in front of my 1954 Ford F100.

Re: WHAT? What The Hell Happened Here?

It looks like the getter is crowding inside of the tube. The "vacuum" tube is obviously a vacuum & it's pos. that it may be burning too hot witch could account for the collapse??? I also like your out of the box thinking! Just be sure to be safe when you try these mods., them little tubes can have a butt load of current running through them so you'll prob. want it to stay inside? I'd try another tube & if it happens again then you will know if it was just that particular tube or if you will need to either rework your mod or try other possibilities? Good luck!!!

Thanks for your concern about my well being. Actually there is nothing wrong with the tube and how it is operating. The tube is a Mullard 6SL7 GT and the getter looks exactly how it appears in the photo, weird I know, but nothing wrong here. The tube has always looked like that and it is NOS and there certainly isn't too much heat. All is well.
