What wire?

So I was playing my Roadstar today and the pickup cut out again (I mentioned this on my other post). That's a good enough reason for me to go ahead and upgrade the pickup (pretty sure I'm going to go with the DiMarzio X2N). I think I can keep the original switchable volume pot but I'll use new wiring. So here's a kinda silly question: What wire do I use? What gauge? Strand count, etc?

Re: What wire?

No specific wire.

Just something that is insulated and workable in your hands to make it easy to do the soldering job. Cloth pushback wire is one of my faves because you just cut - no wire stripping required. The plastic coated stuff of course needs stripping after length trimming.

+1

I use cloth push-back wire for everything I can, even my Gibsons. It's too big for most push-pull pots so I can't use it there, but pretty much everywhere else.

Re: What wire?

Push back wire is cool, but it is actually difficult to work with. The cloth doesn't cut clean, it gets in the way when soldering, and it is usually fairly thick (ok for most guitar soldering but not for micro switches or push pull pots).

You definitely want stranded wire. I prefer 24-26 gauge silicone coated, it is small and easy to work with and very, very flexible (way more than PVC coated wire). Like this stuff:
