What would be a nice combination with the Invader?

I have an American strat with a single humbucker wired straight through volume. I want to make it more versatile with a neck pickup. What will go good with the invader? And what pots and switches do I need or should get?

Re: What would be a nice combination with the Invader?

Are they serious suggestions? I like what I've read about the Hot rails. I wouldn't want another invader, though .

What else would be good? I like 80's glam & bit of classic rock kinda stuff.
Maybe even"Poppy"

I've just finished up a new wiring diagram, that uses an Invader with a neck single coil, and a superswitch. You get five cool tones. I'm going to be using a Stack Plus for my single so that all five positions are noise-cancelling, but a regular single will work too.

As soon as I get it wired up and tested, I'll let you know how it works out.

Edit: Here's the five combo's:

1 single, 2 humbuckers, 2 Strat-ish notch tones. ;)

ArtieToo is the resident Mad Scientist of Tone. Seems like everybody who does what he says is pretty happy about it.

No you don't want an Invader neck. The Invader isn't great at all for leads, so I'd suggest something that IS. Hot Rails or something similar.

EDIT - for some reason, probably Artie's diagrams - I thought you wanted a single coil. I think a '59 would go well with an Invader and would be good for soloing, where the Invader would be good for really heavy rythm tones. Pretty nice combo I'd imagine.

Yup. Me too. It was the line "single humbucker" that threw me. I read that as "a single and a humbucker". That changes everything. :D

Re: What would be a nice combination with the Invader?

Another vote for the 59 neck if you want a humbucker. Huuuge clean tones, rocks when dirty too, and would be a nice contrast to the Invader.

Both pickups are known for having substantial amounts of lowend. I assume the Invader is just a lot hotter with more mids than 59.

I used to have a 59 neck in my Warmoth, before I started refinishing it and gave the pickups to my sister (she's a better guitarist than me so i try to help her with tone when i can :smokin:) but I'm almost definitely getting another 59 when it gets rebuilt. It's 'the standard' for humbuckers as far as i'm concerned.

Re: What would be a nice combination with the Invader?

A '59 bridge in the neck would be great for smoky leads and would have a tad more mids than '59 neck model.

Re: What would be a nice combination with the Invader?

More & more I'm less impressed with my 59 neck. The Invader neck, however, is pretty killer. You shouldn't rule it out before trying it. It'll totally surprise you.

Re: What would be a nice combination with the Invader?

ArtieToo that doesn't seem to bad at all. I might consider it.

59n or hot rails for neck positiion. Which one would be more Ideal?

Also, what pots and switch do I need?

Is it a single coil or humbucker you want? The HotRails is a single coil sized pickup.
If you want a single coil, get the HotRails, or maybe ask for some other recommendations - there are a few other good single coil sized pups out there, like the JB Jr. which might work well, I don't even know if that comes in a neck model myself.
If it's a humbucker you want, I'd say the '59 will work very well with the Invader. It's all personal preference of course - Jay 77 says check out the Invader neck, but I personally hated that pickup, seemed like a total waste of time. Just as bad as the bridge model for lead but without the serious rythm crunch of the bridge version. Just a total waste of s pace. But some people DO like it.

Re: What would be a nice combination with the Invader?

It depends on what you use the neck for and what you play. Also what qualities you want from the neck. A Full Shred neck would be a good contrast. The Full Shred is a bright, articulate shredder for the neck to go with a fat, dark riffer for the bridge.

I want a single coil size for neck.
Yeah I know exactly what you mean with the invader, I wouldn't want it in the neck position plus its a humbucker, looking for a good single to match it in bridge.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys.

But what pots and switch should I have under the hood?
