what would the forum do?

ok all...im in a jam. i have a short window to trade in my mesa single recto for an older 2 channel dual tremoverb. im really thinking i should do it. the only things holding me back are:
1. i only have a 2x12 to run it through. my single rec. is a 1x12 combo, so i always run that and my 2x12.
2. the tremoverb doesnt have that solo boost...which i ****ing love. i guess i could just set one channel a notch or two louder. and sound check with my volume knob at like 3/4 or something. i just am hesitant - one of my buddies swears my current amp has this "mojo" to it, he said its just got this vibe to it...told me if i trade it, offer him to him first so when i get the tremoverb i can remember what im missing...(lol thanks asshole!)
i dont know what to do...what would you guys do?

edit: one of my favorte things about my single rec combo, is that its fairly simple and straightforward. and i ****in love the solo volume boost. but i do find myself wishing i had another switchable channel (mainly that vintage channel which i can toggle between w/o an EQ adjustment and volume adjustment back at the amp)

if you like your tone, keep it. if you think you're going to improve your tone, trade it. just to add some features like a solo boost or something is probably not worth the trade if you're happy with your tone. i'm sure there are other ways to achieve additional functionality.

Re: what would the forum do?

Without hearing your single recto.... I would go for the 2-channel Tremoverb.

Those are regarded by many as the best-sounding Recto Mesa ever produced.

I wouldn't worry about the loss of one speaker - the jump in noticeable volume from the Single Rec to the Tremoverb (they're 100 watts, right?) is going to counteract that. That said, if you LOVE the sound of your amp and you're just temped to trade for the sake of trading, don't do it. We always regret those decisions.

i think your right on the money...

im just mostly tempted by having that vintage high gain channel at my feet. (as opposed to back at the amp where i have to change all the **** settings. i of course cant do this in the middle of a song) cause right now i just have clean and dirty. and i rarely use the clean. so im just thinking that having the vintage channel could be my rythm and crunch channel. while the high gain could be my louder lead and solo channel. as far as reverb goes, im not really sure what you meant by that. i dont really want the tremoverb because of the tremolo feature. i want it bc its A DUAL RECTO!! lol and because of the two channels. maybe id be smarter just adding a boss ds-1 in my chain?

Re: what would the forum do?

You need to play them both through your cab and see which you like best. If yours really has some mojo it should be apparent. I wouldn't worry about the speaker, you can always add another cab. If you really feel you need that channel cloning then highly consider it. (I'd also try a TS in front of yours to see if that will give you more versaility... it may or may not) Finally, remember you can use a boost in the loop to act as a solo boost. (Probably an EQ as an 'anti-solo' cut would work best)

Good luck, have fun.

Re: what would the forum do?

Have you spent time with the Trem-o-verb to see if it'll do exactly what you want or are you guessing from the features on paper? IME while the voicings & channel cloning is great, really versatile, it still requires "tinkering" the EQ's and whatnot to get the best out of it.

yeah...ive only spent about 20 minutes on it in the store. not even through my own guitar. heres the thing that gets me after tonights band practice:

when i first bought the single recto, i remember thinking "HOLY SH!T!" ... i remember thinking this, almost instantly! when i played the tremoverb i just remmeber thinking yeah, it sounds like a mesa. im starting to wonder if my amp really does have that mojo my buddy was talking about...that vibe that lets people know, "hey shaffer's in the room" ya know? at this point, im for sure i need to spend more time playing the amp with my own guitar ( he had it on top of a marshall jcm900 2x12 cab exactly like mine so im not worried about the cab) and really give it a good 30 minute run through. thats the only way im gonna know for sure. he's asking 1299 for it, that was the other big draw i think also...thanks for the advice so far...i'll repost when i get some more time with it.

Re: what would the forum do?

Sounds to me like you've answered your own question a few times already. To me you're saying stick with what you already own.

Re: what would the forum do?

The Tremoverb is a slightly less metal sounding Rectifier with reverb and trem. I had a 2-12 Tremoverb for a little while, and it wasn't bad at all, but to me highgain amps just sound better as heads on sealed cabs, so I sold it.

I'd probably do the trade, since it's a more expensive Mesa, which was also discontinued.
