What Would You Choose And Why?

so I'm in a bit of a pickle here, I have a guy interested in Trading me for one of my amps, and up for trades is a ESP MII, newer bolt on with maple neck/fretboard and SD '59/JB

the other is a complete Malmsteen Body in the Yellow with a Warmoth Birdseye Maple Neck/earvana nut and String saver saddles.

I'm gonna get to play them both on Friday, but witch one would you choose and Why? what should I look for on both models? I'm not a strat guy by any means but I already have a Floyd super strat that covers that need nicely so the strat's looking quite tempting.

thanks for the input.

Re: What Would You Choose And Why?

personally id take the strat...but i dont like pointy floydy things. only thing i would be wary about on the strat is the neck. Check the fretting, in my experience warmoth necks usually need a proper fret dress out of the box. also, if the neck is a one piece birdseye then i would steer clear. Recent thread on here was addressing the stability of birdseye necks. I stand by my statement of two piece figured necks being several times stronger and more reliable.

Re: What Would You Choose And Why?

I have a Warmoth neck on my 57RI, its RW fingerboard and it is very stable. In fact the 10 years or so its been on my guitar its only been adjusted a few times. So I think it has to do more with the piece of wood then the species and how its cared for. I have humidifiers running 24/7 in the winter to keep them at proper humidity (45 to 50%).

As far as the 2 are concerned I have no need to ever own a floyd guitar, I probably should, but I am a blues player and I use the whammy very sparingly..... Ala Gilmore. I like the stability of having the bridge set against the body and I do like graphite saddles and nuts (for string breaking issues, not tuning). So I would definatley pick the Srtat...... There is nothing quite like a good Strat!

Re: What Would You Choose And Why?

If niether one has any "player" value for you, then take the one that has higher resale value.

That is clearly the ESP.

Re: What Would You Choose And Why?

Vulgar looking black pointy super strat or sweet looking strat with an awesome colour....
That's a hard choice....

.....STRAT....

Re: What Would You Choose And Why?

yes deffinatly is a YJM body, with the correct pickups and correct colour...hrmm this is really a pickle for me..I sure hope one really stands out from the other Playability/sound wise because they are both pretty sweet looking.

At the level of a Warmoth/USACG neck, I wouldnt thinlk one should be too concerned with any stability issues regarding birdseye Maple necks..

Anyone have a link to this thread about the stability of Birdseye maple necks? I just bought a USACG one piece very highly birdseyed maple neck but I am concerned about it.

i had a 1996 MIM Tex Mex strat with that yellow finnish and a full sized vintage bridge on it... i sold it and miss it in some ways... i've thought about getting a Warmoth strat in that finnish... they call it Light Yellow

That's what I thought as well.

As long as neither speaks at you when you play 'em get what you can turn the easiest and, with a non-stock neck the Strat would be pretty hard to do so...

Naturally if you feel one of them to be clearly superior to the other in your opinion then it goes without saying that all bets are off...

Re: What Would You Choose And Why?

The M II gives me so much GAS, and I don't normally GAS for ESP guitars. Just always something so appealing and classy about them, but I can't figure out why exactly.

Re: What Would You Choose And Why?

Strat. Floyds are a no no for me and the Strat is pure Win.

Re: What Would You Choose And Why?

The ESP is fantastic. It's got a Floydy and a cool maple neck. The other strat is kinda ordinary. If it's a real signature YJM like mine then I would say go for that but it's not so ESP FTW!

Re: What Would You Choose And Why?

I say the Strat because to me, it's more versatile and will suit for more musical situations.

I don't get it. The ESP has a Floyd Rose trem on it. Seems a little more versatile to me since it can do what a strat can't do. The only thing a strat can do that it can't is sound like single coils and that's easily fixed with a coil tap isn't it?

Re: What Would You Choose And Why?

I dont know what you realy require.. but between the two I would go for the Strat. I need a Strat, more than I need a guitar with a floyd. Though Floyd guitar would be nice I have a guitar with HH config and a trem that works well. STRAT for me.
