What would you choose for Pickups (cream/black zebra, black coils, or nickel cover) it you had a choice what would you choose.

I choose cream/black with a nickel cover sd CS JP bridge position

Depends on the guitar. For a more "traditional" guitar like a Les Paul, I like covers. For a less trad instrument (e.g., super strat), I'd choose exposed coils with the zebra/black decision based on the color of the guitar.

I say covers.

Mind you I have seen some Les Pauls with black exposed coils and they look downright mean...

Bear in mind that with covers there is a concensus that you get a slight dip in your highs. Not a big difference, but an audible one though. Some would describe it as muffled or 'honky'.

i would like covers for mine, but since you are going with a JP set you could also make your lp look like his number one slightly by exposing the coils on one humbucker and having the exposed coils be cream and black.
