What would you do?

Some of you guys remember the LTD EC-250 that was inexplicably sent to me a few months ago. Well, ever since I got it I've been thinking about what pickups I want to swap into it and I'm just not sure of what I'm wanting because realistically, I'm just swapping pickups for the sake of trying new things.

I've thought about the WLH set, and then the Pegasus/Sentient combo, then I looked into boutique winders as well as budget winders but nothing really makes me feel compelled to drop cash.

So here's the point:

Let's say this was your guitar. You got it for free and you have other axes so you've basically got your bases covered. What would you do with it? (If you kept it. We aren't flipping the thing.)

This isn't a "Which pickup is best for me?" thread. Its an attempt to see what your opinions are and why you have them.

Let's have some fun for a change.

Re: What would you do?

what do you mean by got your bases covered?

what are your bases exactly?

Re: What would you do?

ok.

do you have a "do it all" axe that you can always trust to just grab and go and fit in well for any kinda jam/gig? ie one that can do metal, blues, jazz, country, punk, sludge, whatever..?

Cuz it's always great having one of those. or two... a #1 and a backup.

Re: What would you do?

2 Triple shots, a liberator, then use the thing as a test bed for pickups and wiring experiments.

Re: What would you do?

Maybe go all out and do the jimmy page wiring mods with triple shots(and 4 push/pulls) and every additional mod for the umpteen million combos http://tonefiend.com/the-pagey-project-resource-page/ You know how partial I am to Fralins and Tom Andersons haven't gotten a pickup from either one of them I didn't love so far. Something really different is not a bad idea either Humbucker sized P 90s or 4 single coils in the 2 humbucker spots.

Re: What would you do?

I'd have four options.

Put in a PATB set.

Put in a set of Wilde L500s with Q-filter.

Put in a set of Fishman Fluence buckers.

Put in a set of the new Q-tuners.

Re: What would you do?

In grossly oversimplified terms, the LTD 259 series is the 400 series sans American pickups. The playability is excellent but the tone woods are not of the highest excellence. Neither are some of the electronics.

I would go active. Bridge the Metal/Blues dichotomy with either a Blackouts Metal bridge and a Live Wire Classic II neck or the EMG-57/66 pair. The JH set is another possibility. I like the EMG-??X models.

Re: What would you do?

Maybe grab a set of those Fluence humbuckers when they come out.

Re: What would you do?

I'd put locking tuners on it, a babicz bridge, shield it, and put a 59n a4 and a custom 5 in it replace all of the electronics with cts pots, a push pull tone with a. 0068 ceramic cap and a switchcraft toggle and jack.

I totally agree. It's not always feasible when to buy a new guitar for this purpose, but since you got it for free it's probably gonna work best as a test guitar.

Re: What would you do?

Actually, I'd put a Dimarzio set in there. Tone Zone, or an Air Zone maybe. Something "awhhh"-y sounding.

Re: What would you do?

To answer this, I need;

Guitar pic

And a list of the other guitar/pickup combos owned

You're a good man, Ace.

The main guitars I use are an Ibanez Artist with a C8 and 59n, an LP junior with a JB, and a Telecaster with the A2P tele set.

Re: What would you do?

Triple Shots, a freeway switch with a Screamin' Demon neck and Alternative 8 bridge.

Re: What would you do?

I felt like doing something with my Charvel that was completely different than all of my other guitars. just for the heck of it I put a set of blackouts in it. I have completely fallen in love with those pickups.

Re: What would you do?

just cause im a rebel, who likes rad guitar tones, I would put a black winter in the bridge and a BKP Mississippi queen in the neck. all the tones
