What would you like to see as a SD production pickup?

Re: What would you like to see as a SD production pickup?

I would like to see an Alnico Pro II Strat BRIDGE model wound up to around 7.5k to balance out with the neck & middle better...

Same for a tele... I have a Custom Shop BROADCASTER pickup wound up just above 9k that is simply fantastic sounding!

Also... maybe something called a Hot 59 up around 9.5k with slightly mis-matched coils...

I can't fail to mention the 59/Custom Hybrid since it is still the best overall pickup I have ever heard... match it up with a 59/Jazz Hybrid neck pickup and you are in tone heaven...

id like to see a 10k antiquity with or without dun-aging
played one for a long time and it sounded amazing but i sold the guitar it was in. now i use a 9.4k, its great but the 10k was almost perfect

I'm with Jeremy. I used the S-DECO model in the bridge of my Les Paul Custom. It is a 10K pickup with an alinco II magnet. I had a JB in there since 82 and this was a nice change. Bascially a hotter antiquity without the "dunaged" magnet. This is a custom shop pickup now but it would be a nice compliment to those who like a "hotter" PAF sound. Why not offer it as a standard "Vintage-Hot" model.

Sounds good, but wouldn't it be a 'little' on the bassy side? I'd be affraid to get mud. I think the SD would fit my description but it might be too bright?

Strangely enough, I didn't think the Blues in the neck position sounded bassy or muddy at all. It did sound thick.

What pickup design would you like to see come from Seymour Duncan that isn't currently available as a production pickup?

I would love to see an pickup wound to around 10-12k, voiced as a PAF, alnico II mag, and with unbalanced coils (kind of a hot PG). I think that this pickup would split the difference between the PAF class pickups and the Custom series.

What would you guys like to see?

those are Custom Shop pups you're describing there. They'll make anything you want upon request. MrHM.

Re: What would you like to see as a SD production pickup?

Another vote for the WFD F**CKIN HAILS RAILS

Actually... if anyone gets bored and wants to try winding one... :laugh2:

Man I would love that pickup forever...

Re: What would you like to see as a SD production pickup?

How about a pup dedicated to low-tuned guitars. I know a lot of guys who drop tune, and the low frequency just isn't there. How about the LowBucker? Or you can call it "The Mother of All Pickups: The MotherBucker!"

I'm aware that the Custom Shop will make anything that my little heart desires

I would just like to be able to bop down to my local shop and get the pickup I'm describing, without the wait.

Or, perhaps, a pickup "saddle". A universal mounting system that would allow you to "pop" one out, and another in - in a second. That could be real nice.

i like that idea too, and pickups with easily replaceable magnets

Re: What would you like to see as a SD production pickup?

a pickup that has neon all around it...... whenever u hit a note, the coler changes. also, some gizmo that would get rid of all the hum the neon would probably create :deal: i think it would make billions, no TRILLIONS!

Dan Armstrong designed something like that for the old Lucite guitars that are now remade by Ampeg switchable pup 'modules' (I believe that's what they were called - think there were 3 different pups for the guitar)

Re: What would you like to see as a SD production pickup?

I'm for the 10K pup jeremy and others have spoke of. There's a gap between the PAF's and the Custom series that that pup would fill nicely and really round out the SD pickup line. I'd buy it. Heck, I've considered buying the Custom Shop one...

Re: What would you like to see as a SD production pickup?

JB neck model. A little less hot than the JB bridge model so it would be able to balance better with less hot pickups.

Re: What would you like to see as a SD production pickup?

The Demon (10k) is a under wound Custom type (#43 gauge wire). Fralin will only wind #42 (vintage type pickup wire) out to 9.5k but I don't know if that's due to the bobbin not being able to hold any more or if that is the mud threshold for #42…maybe Lew would have the scope on that.

Wish stevent & Jeremy would comment more on the tonal and output difference between an a2 10k #42 and the Custom Custom…

Re: What would you like to see as a SD production pickup?

A single coil version of the Jazz would be cool.. I tried a Jazz split-coil today, and it sounded AMAZING.

Re: What would you like to see as a SD production pickup?

I really wish Duncan could try to be up to par with EMG's active pups tonal variety. I think they could take the market on the active world. maybe make some active pups that look like passives?

Re: What would you like to see as a SD production pickup?

I'd like to see an A2 PAF voiced pup around 10k-12k, like a fuller, hotter PG or Seth.
