What would you put in...

I just placed an order for a Gibson SG Supreme in Trans. Black.
I sould have it by next month.

I'm almost 100% sure what I want to throw in the badboy, but I wanted some opinions, anyway.

I play mostly metal, but I need a well-rounded guitar.

So, what pickups would you throw in this Axe?

Out of all the pickups I had in my S/G's my faves were the Rio Grande BBQ and the Duncan Distortion. The BBQ isnt very bright but is well rounded doesnt have a ton of output but is by no means wimpy either. The DD in the S/G was much brighter and had less but tighter bass. But if you havent gotten the guitar yet i think i would reccomend getting the guitar and playing it and deciding what it lacks that you want then go from there.

Sweet axe, man. I am jealous. I've found that a Jazz works really well in the neck of my SG. It's clear and sparkly for cleans, and can really chug a bit with some gain. Being a metal player, you might take Jolly's advice https://forum.seymourduncan.com/showthread.php?t=33376 and get a Jazz bridge model. I have a Custom 5 in my bridge spot, but depending on the sound you're wanting, you may want a little more punch than it can deliver (not that it's bad at all).
One word of warning on the Jazz - It is a naturally bright pickup, and in an SG (a typically bright axe) with a maple top AND ebony fretboard... it could be a little harsh, but there's really only one way to find out.

I have a JB in my SG, but keep in mind, that will be brighter than your average SG because of the maple top. The JB is an awsome metal pickup- tight under high gain, awsome harmonics. By all accounts I've heard, the DD is aslo a great pickup. I've got one on the way.

Since it has a maple top, I wanted more suggestions because I wasn't really sure that I wanted to install my Standard set.

Imo you can't go wrong with a JB/Jazz set. If that's too bright or you want more low end, you could go with a Custom/Jazz or Distortion/Jazz. 59n, PGn, A2n, are all worthy neck pups too if you don't like the Jazz. With my setup I don't have any problems getting a good low end thump with my JB. The JB just has a great singing lead tone that I love, as well as great crunchy distortion on the lowe strings. What amp(s) are you using?

I agree..cos of the maple top it should be a bit brighter.

My "hardrock/metal" pick for gibsons is always a Custom bridge and 59 neck, though a Jazz neck should work great too.

And I'd def use the nickel cover versions.

BTW..I cannot remember but doesn't that SG Supreme have an ebony board too? That will make it even brighter. You should prolly wait, play and see what ya think. A Custom or JB may sound too shrill with an Ebony board and a maple top. Maybe not tho. I'd wait and see.

Yes; the supreme does have an Ebony fretboard.

I'd recommend either a SH-5b/SH-2n or a SH-4/SH-2n set.

I do love the girth and power of a Custom in a nice, rich mahogany body; but at the same time, the JB would give you that exciting, vibrant midrange.

Hmmm... I hate deciding between two great possibilities...

I know it's my choice, and that's why I wanted some suggestions first!

JB n/Custom b... darkish pickups for a bright guitar, evens out? JB n might be a bit overpowering though.

i wouldn't put anything in it...i'd just box it right up and ship it to me...why would you want that...hehehe....nice guitar!!

i'd go with a JB/Jazz if you want some bite from the bridge

but if you want a bit warmer bridge sound i'd go custom/jazz
