What would you put into a custom guitar?

OK so I have a guitar on order with Blueline and believe I have finally picked out the set of pickups I will be using, but I am still interested in hearing what you guys would use in a custom guitar. Would you use duncans off the shelf? Have some custom wound? Use another kind of pickups? Just whatever your views are let me know. I believe I will be using a PRS Tremonti bridge and a AP2H in the neck, but I still have another guitar I can put some more pickups in. So lets hear it what would be you perfect setup? btw let me know what style music you would use them for because I am open to all kinds of music.

Since my guitars tend to lean towards "conventional" configurations, (singles, humbuckers, Strat, Tele, etc.), I think I'd make a custom guitar to house one the less conventional pups, (to me, anyway). Something like the P-90's, Phat Cats, or mini-hums.

Especially, the interesting P-90's.

Well, I'm building a custom guitar from Warmoth parts right now, and I chose stock Duncan pickups. I'm putting a Custom Trembucker in the bridge and a Classic Stack in the neck. I'm going to be using for a mix of punk/deathmetal/indie rock.

If I ever order a custom guitar, it will be a Hamer Watson model. I'll put a Distortion in the bridge and a Duncan to be named later in the neck.

I think the aph2 will be a good match in the neck for a very natural, warm even response. the guitar will have a mahogany neck and a mahogany body with a carved maple top (a darn nice one too) which will add a nice amount of bite and sparkle. plus, my neck volute and neck joint will prevent an alnico pickup from being too muddy. That being said, I'd say a 59 would also work great. But we were discussing an overwound aph2. I'll give MJ a call when I can so we can see what she says on the matter.

A pearly gates in the neck - all the warmth of an alnico 2 magnet, the classic stylings of a paf, and a little extra kick! Cleans up nicely with the volume.

A custom custom in the bridge. Crunch, growly, awesome mid cut, and smooth as butta!

Bonus - the pumped mids of the custom custom, plus the "scoop" of the pearly gates combines to form some awesome flavors across the board. This of course works best with two volumes and two tones, or at least two volumes.

I play a range frombad jazz (good jazz played poorly) to blues (clean & nasty) to metal (old school - maiden/priest). This is a really flexible and great sounding combo.

probably a DD or JB for bridge, duckbucker/hot stack/vintage stack middle and a full shred, jazz, 59 on the neck

I building a V-type guitar now. Just finished cutting and slotting the finger board. I already got and invader and hot rails. This guitar has a poplar body, maple neck/fingerboard.

an overwound APH or a set of them would be a very nice. Aarons guitars are amazing. He is starting on my second one. (single cut with p90's)

I feel any pickup you put in this guitar you will give you a great sound. Having custom wound pickups would really complete that guitar, all hand made. it will be a great day when you get to plug in and see what she can do. It doesn't matter what kinds of guitars you have played, you will still be amazed by the sound and the quality. Good luck both of you.

I've got a SP90-1n and a SP90-2b sitting on a shelf waiting to go into the SG body sitting on the same shelf (Warmoth parts). Like Artie, I have more conventional configurations in my other guitars, and P90s sounded like a great idea.

Off-the-shelf pickups were ok for me. I researched P90s and decided that the combo I bought was probably what I want as far as tone is concerned. I don't believe that you need to put custom shop pickups in a custom guitar just to be different. Getting a custom shop pickup purely on the basis that it's "custom" doesn't make much sense to me, especially if the tone you are looking for can be covered by regular stock. I'd only go custom shop if there was a particular tone that I knew I had to have. Otherwise, custom shop for the sake of being "custom" doesn't fly in my book.

Depends on the woods and the construction. My last custom guitar was made from traditional materials (mahogany neck & body w/ maple top) while my next one will be a bit more exotic (cocabola neck, korina body w/ maple top). I expect my pickup preferences to vary between the two instruments.

A Les Paul body, high output double humbuckers, push/pull pots like in an old tele. And a big ass marshall amp. Oh yeah!...

I am lovin' it. Lets get some more opinions coming in. I am about to change the pickups in my other guitar so this is giving me some ideas what to go with. Plus my buddy wants me to help him pick out different pups for his Ibanez so every little bit helps. And to Blueline, man I could not be more excited. The more I think about it the more I can't stop thinking about it. Thats kinda profound or stupid I really can't decide.

mahogany body, maple neck, rosewood fretboard, 22 frets, Phat Cat in the bridge, Jazz in the neck, 4 position switch, one volume, one tone, hardtail or tune-o-matic with string through body bridge.
