What year did seymour start to wax pot production pickups?

Re: What year did seymour start to wax pot production pickups?

Not sure on the answer, but my guess would have been very early on if not an original feature. SD and Dimarzio came into being due to the issues with Gibson pickups at the time (low output and squeal). It makes sense that perhaps potting might have been an very early feature.

I believe wax potting has been a feature of the majority of SD pickups since the beginning. The only exceptions I can think of are the antiquity series, custom shop and a few regular production pickups that are marketed as being period correct like the broadcaster and seth lover.

I have both a JB and a Custom from the 1979-80 time period and both are wax potted.

I do not know the year it started but I assure you early Duncans (and DiMarzios for that matter) were not potted.

I got a flat head screw pinkish bobbin no logo Jazz.
So its late 70s and pre 83.
Bobbin colour is also indicating pre duncan cream that appear ~82 and ended ~ early 88.
Its the SEY era bone colour bobbin.

No wax potting :)
So till guess 1980-1981 most models got wax.
