What year is my Strat?

In 1997-98 I got my first guitar when I was about 13-14. Its a Fender Squier strat, and I've had it all this time, and still use it today. Stocked with SD's in obviously.

What I want to know is the year of the guitar, I've looked up the serial number online but can't find anything to get the year. The serial number is: YN715810. Made in China. I'm suspecting its a 1997, but can anyone help with this?

YN: Y = Yako (Taiwan), N = Nineties (1990s), the first number following the serial number prefix is the year.

For example,

"YN5" = made by Yako in 1995.

Ah I thought so! So my guitar is nearly 20 years old!

What if its a Telecaster beginning with a Z? I think that one I have is a 2008

Fender "Z" is for the MIA models during the 2000's.

Sounds about right, bought it in 2008 I think, must have been the same year it was shipped from factory to the store.
