Whatcha doing? Project thread

Re: Whatcha doing? Project thread

Finished this a couple weeks back. OG 70's Hondo body, refin'd 80's Charvel neck, Schaller bridge & tuners, Tusq XL nut, EMG 58 & 60, hand cut & polished aluminum control and jack plates, cleverly hidden plugged holes everywhere.

You're weird.

Basically, the seller miscalculated the shipping cost and wouldn't ship unless I gave him more money. I told him I wasn't going to do this. He didn't seem to like that very much.

Refusing to ship the neck? Why?

That's against eBay TOS. I'm pretty sure you can report that as is if you forward your communications with him to eBay.

I'm working on it that. It looks like ebay has changed a lot of the reporting features and I have to call them about this one.

Re: Whatcha doing? Project thread

Hey, there are some great projects shown here. Thumbs-up to all.

This Tele has terminal sympathetic droning. If I can cure that, I'll change the bridge pickup, pickguard and refinish the neck with a black face on the headstock. The neck is off a Squier Strat and is OK but needs some fret work. The original neck had dried over the years and the frets were sticking out. I thought the droning might be coming from the truss rod so I stuck this one on it to see. That knocked about half the droning but there's still more to take care of. The scale is off with this neck and if I use it I'll need to do some work to get it to intonate properly. It's a low priority but the thing has great tone (except for the bridge pickup) so it's worth getting it going.

Got the 'Bird done today

59's, 500k pots, OD cap with treble bleed, Warmoth neck, grover mini's. Purposefully thin raw finish so it'll relic rather quickly.

Looks sweet Wattage. I don't have a lot of good cutting tools here, I wonder if I can make a control cavity cover like that...

Re: Whatcha doing? Project thread

This mug is swamp ash on pine, and it is getting dyed red with black gain fill on the top and the sides and back will be black. The neck will be a Warmoth Warhead roasted maple with a Fender twisted tele/Lil 59.

Thanks! It's kind of awesome sounding, a big one piece body throws some tone I guess. I used a jigsaw to cut the backplate. I had a template and scribed a line for the cover then cut it. The heat of the blade actually melted it back together but we were able to snap it apart with out breaking it then I belt sanded it lightly to final shape and hand sanded the edges smooth.

Cool. Why the string retainer?

Only way to keep the low "E" in place. I don't know that I'd use a banana headstock again, I guess we could've cut really deep neck slots but didn't want to do that.

The knobs are just spare knobs off my 2011 American standard HSS Strat... I'll be getting flashier knobs later lol

Re: Whatcha doing? Project thread

It's crazy how well the Ibanez neck goes visually with the Strat body.

Re: Whatcha doing? Project thread

I just ordered this graphic representation of my idea from Warmoth. It's a carved top Regal, solid swamp ash with a swamp ash top finished in transparent blue. They do not offer swamp ash top carved top Regals from their on site menu so I had to order it as a custom off menu option. Because of it being an off menu request I only have a graphic representation of the back available. It should be here in 8 to 10 weeks which gives me plenty of time to think about what kind of neck woods I want. For the time being my plans are to toss a WLH set in this baby. I'm excited, I've wanted a swamp ash carved top for years.

I currently have an all Indian rosewood neck on another Warmoth carved top and I have a wenge/ziricote fretboard neck on a different Warmoth carved top. I love both of those necks. I am having trouble deciding if I want another all Indian rosewood neck or an all wenge neck for this new one.
