Whats a good 15watt tube amp?

whats a good 15-30watt tube amp with enough gain for heavy rock but warm enough to sound decent clean?



(if it helps: for my home because a bigger tube amp would be to loud, I know i wont get this kind of tone but I like, Van halen, Jimi, SRV, and funk, any suggestions would be nice)

How much are you looking to spend, approximately?

A Dr. Z Maz Jr. would be the only amp you'd ever need, but it's a little too pricey for many people.

price is not that much of an issue (depends man) i mean it is but if its good ill try to get it (its my chrismas present to my self haha,) just cant be too loud u know what i mean , just something that will get me playing jimi, van halen ect, with out geting kicked out of the house

I don't know the new price off the top of my head. There's a 1x12 version on E-bay for $1400 right now. I think that's too high, though.

Luke Duke uses a SD pickup booster and an OD pedal to keep himself out of trouble with his, and he can pull off some pretty good classic rock tones with it. It cleans up nicely, too. They may be hard to find, though. His is the only one I've ever seen here in Arkansas. If you live in a big city, you might be ok.

Laney LC15 or LC15R with a boost pedal. Or the VC15.

If price is no object, check out a Bogner Metropolis. It's a bigger-sized amp (vs. say a Blues Jr, for example) and comes in 15 and 30 w versions (EL-84 class A). I've played a 1x12 30W with a tele and it was so responsive-just a dream to play. It has a gain/tone "schizo" switch that lets you quick dial in a few different settings. The cleans are to die for and the gain is plentiful. Huge open sound with great reverb too. Wouldn't call it compact, light or cheap, but man! IT IS IT!!!!

It's something that I've fallen in love for and like many here, I'm saving bit by bit and hopefully in a year or so I'll have one.

The Maz 18 will cost about 1300-1500 and isn't as gainy as the Bogner (around 2000).

FWIW-that little blues Jr can be a hot rocker. Compact, powerful, and with new tubes and speaker will be a great value (get 'm for 300 bucks on ebay). Lots of guys here use them-do a search and see what they say. Jeremy uses a Celestion greenback and curly uses a FD2 in front of his. I'm sure they'd be happy to fill you in.

FWIW a guy that bought an amp off me has a brand new Crate V30(?) Palomino that hewas gonna sell me for $400.00.

TheChris is using one & likes it a lot.

If that's not your thing, maybe get with Scott F about building you a Franklin or one of his other amps.
