Re: Whats a good chorus pedal?
I've tried every chorus pedal listed in all the posts above.
Here's my take...
Boss (Japan) CE2 is nice, but I found it added a little too much high end to my sound. Not as smooth as some other analog choruses.
The Voodoo Lad is cool but not as dimentional as some others.
Speking of Dimension... The Boss Dimension C is awesome. 4 simple presets and when run in stereo will compete with the best of them.
The Analog Man clone is very smooth and dimensional. Liked it a lot, but alas, I sold it and ended up keeping these two in my signal chain:
1. an old 1980's japan Ibanez (maxon) CS-505 stereo chorus. This is the same series of pedals as the TS808's. Has the best pedal based thick analog chorus in stereo. No true bypass though. Not a factor for me because I use a VHT valvulator line buffer and George " cables.
2. My new (old) favorite is the Rockman Stereo Chorus. I though I would instantly sound like Boston when I plugged into this thing... but, to my delight, it just dressed up MY tone nicely. This all analog 1/2 rack space unit actually delivers 3 effects in one if you run in stereo (which I do). Everything is footswithable. There is the chorusing effect which is very subtle yet effective and very natural sounding, then there is the MIX effect where you can go from a straight mono sound to a very WIDE mix where it sounds like you are enveloped in sound, then there is the "long chorus" effect which boosts the signal somewhat and adds a really tight (maybe 40ms) delay which is great for parts you want to stand out.
So, the Rockman and old Ibanez are keepers for me. That's my 2 cents on the subject. Now back to work
