Re: whats a good heavy metal amp

i hav a marshall mg50dfx and idk i think i want to sell it. whats a real nice heavy metal amp in the 300-500dollar range

My idea of metal, is probably not the same as yours . . .

. . . so my idea of a truely brutal/heavy amp is NOT gonna be in your budget, i am afraid to say :(

Oh well, i'll post it anyways ;)

THIS is the ultimate in heavy amp tones (in my eyes)

http://www.matamp.co.uk/gt1.htm - ohhh the GAS is hurting !

http://officialmatampownersclub.yuku.com/topic/868/t/GT1-Review-with-clips.html - review and bruutal clips. (bruutal to me !!!)

http://officialmatampownersclub.yuku.com/topic/2685/t/Some-GT1-Clips.html

http://officialmatampownersclub.yuku.com/topic/380/t/GT1-or-1224-for-me.html - clips, post #42.

. . . and . . .

http://www.greenamps.com/el-amp-is-green-electricamp-usa.html

http://www.electricamp.com/ea-mastervolume-unit.html

But sadly both these brands is wayyy out of your range, and no other amp brand sounds like this, not get this kind of brutal.

Good Luck

Wow! Those clips are terrible....

That tone is easy to nail with about 10 different amps in all budget ranges. A Recto's channel 2 on Raw does that nicely with the gain at less than half, and actually sounds good doing it.

You have to remember, it is an amateur doing very amateur recordings.

I wasn't commenting on the player or the playing...the tone did not strike me anything difficult to get from any number of amps....in fact, that is a tone that most guys I know that play anything heavy or modern would shy away from, it fact they might call it bad.

Re: whats a good heavy metal amp

The Peavey XXL head can be found really cheap used. It uses trans-tube technology (not quite like tubes but a real good impersonation) and has switchable voicings on each channel so you can approximate whatever flavor of metal you want - Van Halen to Pantera. It got real decent reviews in the guitar mags.

Re: whats a good heavy metal amp

Maybe save up for a Krankenstein Jr or Krank Rev Jr. or maybe one of them used could fit your budget.

Re: whats a good heavy metal amp

And if the amp still isn't heavy enough, throw a DS-1 in front!

Re: whats a good heavy metal amp

How about a MetalZone into a Crate solid state? It's within the price range...

Re: whats a good heavy metal amp

You know, I'm sure I'm going to get DESTROYED for saying this, but I played a Bugera 333XL about a week ago and was absolutely floored, and they're cheap as hell. The reliability problems came from cheap sockets that lost filament voltage and clip on connections to the transformer that would lose contact in the blink of an eye. The problems have all been addressed and now they're running strong. I'm seriously thinking of one for a cheap backup for my Cobra...

Seems pretty self explanatory to me. Binnerscot clearly doesn't understand doom, and there's really no point in trying to explain it to him. Some dudes like it, some don't.

Re: whats a good heavy metal amp

Right now Carvin is blowing a BUNCH of stuff out on ebay. I played a MTS for long while. They are bulletproof reliable + sound really nice. $650 NEW for the combo!

The new version of the X100B is also a BEAST! A buddy of mine is a Sach style shreadder who is endorsed by Carvin (Keith Miller). Keith loves his and he flat SHREADS as a player!!
How about $599 for the head NEW!

you not the only one! I have a budget and was looking at a PV valveking 2x12 and also a So Cal head and a windsor head, then I got to A/B the valveking against the Bugera 333xl combo...WOW no comparison the bugera does everything the valveking does without leaving a tiny little maybe 1/3 sweep of EQ on the crunch channel alone ....and sounds better plus you still have a clean channel and a lead channel that are off the chart of anything the VK is capable of.http://www.zzounds.com/item--BUG333XL212
then I got the gas for a Blackstar HT 5 mini stack after being sold on their DistX pedal so Im waiting for the next shipment..plus I need a 120 watt tube amp like .....well as much as 99% of people who buy them but anyway +1 for Bugera and take a look at the Blackstar 5watt stack if you dont need to blow the roof off.http://www.guitarcenter.com/Blackst...110-Guitar-Mini-Half-Stack-489746-i1435429.gc
the Vox ad50vtxl is really good for metal tones, out of production but still can be had for almost too good to be true price http://www.zzounds.com/item--VOXAD50VTXL
