I am considering selling or trading my american peavey wolfgang. I am curious to what would be a fair price on the guitar. Brand new I belive it sold for around $1400 and I might think wolfgangs are not being made anymore also. It is in outstanding shape. The only scratches it has are on the rear covers and they are very light. Otherwise I have not seen any nicks or dings on it. It has VERY little fret wear also. I aslo have the case for it. Thanks for any and all help!!!

I would say you could get $800-$900 for it. I'm thinking of selling mine too, so I've been looking at the used prices. I'm going to wait a little while though, and I would suggest you do the same. Eddie's contract with Peavey is up soon, and the talk is that he has no plans to renew it. If that happens, used prices will go up.

I doubt the prices for the Wolfgangs will go up much, if at all. Unlike the EBMM EVH's, Peavey oversaturated the market with these guitars. The only ones that may be worth anything would be the first year quilts and the Pat Pending models. But even most of those still sell for less than they went for new.

The Wolfgang is a great players guitar, but I highly doubt it'll be the collectors item the EBMM EVH's are. I even see those going for decent prices except for the rare colored ones.

What year was the guitar made? Is it a Pat Pending model? Unless it is a Pat Pending, then your looking at somewhere between $750-$900 from what I've seen them go for on the used market.

I am not sure what the year model is but the serial # is 91005658. It does say PAT PEND near the EVH sig on the back of the headstock though. So what the signifagance of the pat pend in terms of value?

Normally I would agree, but it seems that anything associated with Eddie is the exception. The prices of used Wolfgangs have gone up since Van Halen got back together. From what I've seen, the average selling price of a used Wolfgang is up about $100. Even the Wolfgang straps that retailed for $50 are selling for $150 on Ebay because they are no longer being made. You're right, they will never be collector's items the way the Ernie Ball guitars are, but I'd be willing to be the used prices will go up a little more if Eddie leaves Peavey.

I've been checking these out on ebay.

There's no doubt that the prices have gone way up lately. I was looking at a black US special a couple of months ago and it went for $480. The average price was around $525 for a clean one with case.

Your now looking at $650 and everybody sellin' em seems to know ed has left. So the prices haven't stabilized yet so who knows......

I know that personally, I won't be buying a Wolfie for at least 6 months too see what happens

Re: Whats a good price for an american wolfgang.

The Pat Pending Wolfgangs are obviously the earlier models. The Pat number actually started appearing on the Wolfgangs somewhere in '98, so yours is more than likely a fairly early model. I believe the first Wolfgangs came out in late '96 but production didn't get rolling in mass numbers till a few years later. So collectors are gonna want something that isn't the run of the mill mass production like all the Wolfgangs that came after '98 or so. Still, I'd hold on to the guitar for a while and see what the prices do down the road, but I really don't see that there would be a huge increase in prices.

As for the ebay prices, people tend to pay too much believing the hype of a seller. The local store here has been selling nice used Wolfgang Standards in the $750-$850 range the last several months.

Most online stores I've come across selling them have the Standards at an adverage of $899.

Are you still selling your Wolfgang? If you are I am interested.

Re: Whats a good price for an american wolfgang.

There's a used red flame maple carved top one in the local GC for 1000 even with not a mark on it. Plays like a DREAM and sounds like it too.

but to think that these will increase in value after ed leaves in foolish...peavey SWAMPED the market with these...the EBMMs went up because there were only a few of them...the wolfgangs will not increase in value...they're not RARE...

Hey Luke, if theodie's has already sold or he's changed his mind about selling it, my '99 transparent red Wolfgang Standard will be up for sale soon if you're interested. Send me a PM if you want more information.
