What's a good price. ..

Is an 80's SS amp economical to recap? What is the used value? If you're talking about an amp you can buy used for $100 or less I doubt you're going to justify repair.

Thing is, if he bought another used one for $100 or so, how likely would it be to need caps replaced, either right away, or soon?
He wouldn't necessarily need to replace it with the same thing or with an amp of the same vintage.

So the question is:
What does this amp do that a replacement doesn't do?
Does the amp hold some sentimental value that makes him want to keep it?
If the rationale is to repair instead of replace because it's cheaper how much cheaper do the repairs need to be?
Does repairing it improve its market value?
Is the vintage value of the amp enough to justify repairs?

I've done a cap job on a Pv tube head. fixed the power amp buzz. Parts were 60ish.

With a schematic you can do the job yourself. Some online shops even sell cap kits for popular amps.

To pay someone..I am guessing would charge 400 or so.
