What's a good quiet bedroom practice amp for metal?

Re: What's a good quiet bedroom practice amp for metal?

Thank you all for the replies, dudes!

I'm wondering... has any of you tried the Super Champ X2? It's basically a Mustang with a two 6V6 poweramp. I found a good deal on one locally, and I have a spare 10" Greenback lying around that I could swap in. Wonder if it sounds good at low volumes.

I tried the Super Champ X2 before buying my Katana. The front-end of the SC X2 is solid state, not tube, but sound pretty good clean. I was not impressed with the modelled sounds, even if it's the same as the Mustang, I prefer the Mustang way more. The software is not well implemented, contrary to Mustang and the programming is limited and it's sharing the eq. The sound of the second channel is good using Fender models, not so much using other amp models. IMO I don't see a Super Champ X2 as a metal amp, more a blues/classic rock amp. Maybe your 10" greenback can transform the amp. I wanted the head + cab, really liked the look. I think it's a good pedal plateforme. For the money, the Katana sounds better and has more features.

Well... that's disheartening, lol. Even if the X2 is about 150 bucks pretty much new?

A KTN-50 MkII (the newest version with updated hardware and expanded effects) is $230 brand new. Don't tell anyone, but there's an open box unit on eBay for $206 shipped right now! Plus you can get 10% back in eBay bucks through the app through tomorrow. Shhhhh....it's a secret!

Used first-gen Katanas, which are not even close to being outdated yet (in fact, a new firmware is being released in December) are going for $150, sometimes less if you watch your local classifieds, Craigslist, Offerup, LetGo, etc.

vs. either Katana (MkI or MkII), the X2 doesn't compare in sonic quality and its overall much older hardware/software at this point. I was considering the X2 when I decided on my first Katana (the KTN-100 1x12...I've since upgraded to the Artist)

Oh, and if you really want something fun, check out '80s_Metal's Katana 100 head in the Trading Post. There's a 5" speaker built-in to those (hidden behind the grill material), so you can use it just like the Yamaha THR portables and still have the ability to power full size cabs!

That's actually a ****ing awesome idea. I'd never heard of that.
