What's a good replacement for the AVT-100?

I have a Marshall AVT-100 and I want to swap it for something smaller in size with around the same loudness (I think there's 50W amps that are about as loud). I don't want any onboard effects, just something reasonably cheap (not too cheap). I'm running a ESP LTD MH-100 through a Boss ME-50... so something that'll go good for that setup, I play rock, some metal, and some light distortion stuff, effects, etc. versatility is what i'm looking for. Any help is much appreciated, thanks!

Plenty of killer little tube amps can be picked up around that price range. I assume you're looking for a combo...Peavey has some nice offerings. Check out the classic series...maybe a used triple XXX combo (if you're into heavier music).

Traynor's got a few around that price range...The Crate Palomino series gets pretty good reviews as well.

You could probably go as low as 30 watts...maybe even 15. Depending on what you're using it for of course. I've got a Hughes & Kettner 20 watt tube combo and its loud as ****. It would probably struggle in a "metal" jam session though. Thats why I got my KRANK ;).

Edit...ah...I see the price range has dropped a little bit. No worries, most of the amps I've mentioned can still be picked up new and/or used for around that range.

My best advice though is this: go to a geetar store and check a few out. See what ya like :)

Check the Peavey models - the Classics are good amps but they are not metal amps (if you get the distorion from your effects you'll do just fine). Other Peavey models might also work well for what you need.
For 600$ you can get a good tube amp. Forget the hybrid and solid state technology...

Yeah, that's kinda why I'm wanting to move away from the AVT-100. Are there any peavey's in particular that are loud (60w or more) and compact-ish? Will a tube amp make much difference to the sound if i'm just using the clean channel and getting the effects/distortion from the ME-50? And, what about fender amps, are they worth a look?

In my experience a tube amp helps the sound, even with effects. But there's nothing like tube distortion though. I hardly use my Big Muff since I got the Classic 20.
However, in my experience, matching distortion pedals to tube amps is a harder task then matching them to SS amps.
Femder makes great amps, mostly for cleans and crunch - not metal distortion. You can should check out Laney amps...
