whats a good shreddin' pickup?

whats a good shreddin' pickup for the bridge in my 80's charvel. i dont know the model, but i know the wood is alder and it was made in fort worth texas.
i was thinking of a screamin demon, since it has that more paf type attitude and it didn't sound all that bad in the ESP model. but since the guitar has no tone pot, im afraid it may be too bright. how would the super distortion sound in it also, since it has increased bass and mids it may balance out with the tremolo and no tone pot.
what would you recommend?

p.s. i may also have a luthier route out a floyd routing for it(it has a vintage style trem) so i dont knwo if that would make it brighter also

thanks :)

Re: whats a good shreddin' pickup?

Re: whats a good shreddin' pickup?

Oh well not the same, but i just started a thread asking what pickup i should recommend to a friend for shred stuff.

Re: whats a good shreddin' pickup?

anyone?

it's pretty easy, just 1 bridge humbucker, 1 volume pot.
what would sound good in it?
something with bass like the super distortion, or something else?

bump.

Re: whats a good shreddin' pickup?

maybe a full shred? lol

i can reply for zerb, lol. he is gonna say a custom or a cc

Re: whats a good shreddin' pickup?

i have a custom in my other charvel, i love it but it may be too bright with no tone pot.

Re: whats a good shreddin' pickup?

oooo

hmmm, to bright, um, (thinking).......how about an emg?

Re: whats a good shreddin' pickup?

i thought about that also, but i dont want to replace the electronics. i know, i know, it's just 1 volume, but im lazy :D

how is the super distortion?

How about the C5? Almost a Custom, but without the ceramic high end brightness.

oh yeah, almost forgot about that. i'll see what they got at the music store tommorrow. :)

Re: whats a good shreddin' pickup?

Hey, man. You know I'm gonna say Super Distortion :)
It's got a great lead and rhythm sound. Should be really good in your Charvel too because it's pretty bass/mid heavy.

Another pickup you might want to look into is the DiMarzio Air Zone or Tone Zone. Tone Zone is by far my favorite pickup. They have huge bottom end and a very modern voicing. I think you'd really like'em if you don't mind the modern voicing they have. The Super Distortion is a tad bit more classic sounding.

Oh, thanks for listening to all my clips! I appreciate it!

Re: whats a good shreddin' pickup?

thanks.

i think i may try the tone zone since i might be having the guitar routed out for a floyd rose. or the super distortion

hmmmm... decisions, decisions.

I have the tone pot disconnected and the Custom is very bright in my RG. Maybe a bit harsh. That's the reason the JB will go back in the bridge. Though the custom is a nice detuned under high gain with (a bit trash) i like it for metal :).

Re: whats a good shreddin' pickup?

The Screamin' Demon is by far the best shred pick up I have ever come across, it could also sound pretty good for riffing with the right rig. Huge picking attack, tons of harmonics, lots of mids and treble, and a growl to scare away the voltures! It could however brighten up too much in you axe, but you will get that George Lynch brightness which I personally love. So I think the C5 will be your best option in the end, just because of the bottom end, and I heard some very good shred sounds coming out of that thing. If it was more modern voiced, I'd defenitely try it myself. You could indeed try a Custom, if you wanted something more agressive and cutting, but since your gain for more paf voicing the C5 would grap ya a little better

Re: whats a good shreddin' pickup?

thanks for all the replies, im going to the music store today, i'll see what they have there.

Re: whats a good shreddin' pickup?

if you would have asked me this a few days ago i would have said dunno???
Now i can say THE PAF PRO with no doubt!
it is perfect for shred,it smokes the duncan demon which i tried in my RG.
it has a more powerful paf type tone with extreme clarity and focus which the demon was supposed to have and did not!

I'd say try a dimebucker. I put one in my les paul and I love it.
