What's a nice pedal that sounds somewhat like a cranked EL34?

Re: What's a nice pedal that sounds somewhat like a cranked EL34?

OCD if you wanna get the tone of your own amp cranked - good Plexi type tones outta it.

WERD!!!

That pedal is VEEEERY British sounding. I own one and absolutely love it. Just be careful with the treble though... the new ones have 500K pots which make them brighter and more hi-fi. I have one of the older ones with 250K pots and it does sound more mellow compared to the new ones I've heard

But if you turn down the VERY effective tone knob, and take the time to blend it with your amp, you'll be golden. That pedal is like a british preamp in a box... I love it.

I've never tried the Plexitone or OCD, but I was duly impressed with EH's English Muff'n. It made my BF Bassman sound very, very Marshally when I messed with it.

Maybe the 500k pot was the reason my OCD sucked so bad that I sold it! :laugh2: :smack: :chairfall

The Boss SD-2 Dual Overdrive has a nice Marshally sound on the Lead setting.

As a user of a SD-2, I have to agree... Its got a pretty nice 6l6 kinda sound on the crunch channel to boot.

Jeff H is a great guy! See if he still has his like new Plexitone for sale in the traders post?

Johtosotku is in Finland - I'm not sure what mains voltage they use, but Jeff's American version may not be suitable.

One of you American guys needs to buy Jeff's before he changes his mind and keeps it! ....

The Snarling Dogs "Black Dog" specifically claims to simulate EL34 distortion.

Does it? You decide. I'm only passing along their ad puffery.

Yep, and add in the shipping, insurance, customs and the possible hazards. I'm afraid that it wouldn't be worth it.

Thanks for all the new suggestions! I'll try to check 'em all out. It may be a bit difficult with the OCD as they're pretty rare and pricy here in Finland... and the distributor hasn't really been that top class in my past experiences.

Should be easy to get a PlexiTone imported from Denmark ;)
