A3 mags in the Custom buckers, vs a2 in the BB1/2/3.

A lot of guys over on the Les Paul Forum seem to love the Custom Buckers in their new Les Pauls.

If the pickups are really BB 1/2/3's with A3 mags, then I really want a set! I've gotta try 'em. I've always liked the BB's, but I've thought that if anything might make them a bit better, it would be A3 or A4 magnets.

Unlike some of the other Gibson pickups advertised as offset coil strength, these actually do appear to have this feature. The older ones just had about 5 or 6 winds extra according to some of the winders who'd looked at them.
They have been getting good reviews - certainly the best PAF-esque pickup Gibson has made since the 50's, and users have said they don't sound to shabby even comparing directly to Boutique PAF clones.

is the mean custom buckers is a better/hi-class version?

Better is subjective. They probably sound more open and detailed. Maybe they also could hum slightly more.

Some people get PAF clones thinking they will be 'better', but discover they are too bright and they require a lot of attention to technique to get the best out of.
