Always drooling over my KE2's incredible tone, with the JB, I hadn't tried my V with my Powerball since I got it. So just a minute ago I picked it up again and played it thru both lead channels. I was like: What happened?! The Bill Lawrence usually sounding thick and raunchy on the bottom end now sounded thin! Especially when I palm mutes it sounded more like I was palm muting the high E rather than the low E. It couldn't be any brighter than my JB in a Poplar body with Maple neck-thru-body, which sounds balanced and amazing! So I tried messing with the knobs, turning back the presence and treble, dialing in more bass, more depth punch. Nothing!
What's a mystery to me is the L500XL sounded a little fatter than the JB in my Mesa, but now sounds thinner! Since the Mesa is going out soon, should I just replace the L500XL and get me a '59b or Custom (I'm going to use lower output pick ups, since the Powerball has insane gain)? Or have you guys got any ideas?
Thanks a bunch!
By the way: The Screamin' Demon still sounded the same as the day I had tried it with the Powerball
