Re: What's the best Chorus Pedal?

So what's the diff in tone between the DC2 and the DC3? Both get really good reviews, both are discontinued and the DC3 is half as much $$$.

I honestly can't answer that question as I've not heard nor tested a DC3 in person. Can't help ya on that one.

Re: What's the best Chorus Pedal?

I don't like to color my tone to much. That's why I like the Boss CH-1 it's stereo,And very subtle .

Re: What's the best Chorus Pedal?

My old favorite was the Rocktron Tsunami chorus, then I tried the Digitech Hardwire Chorus. It is simply stunning. From analog beautiful to studio esque rack chorus sounds.. It can do it all and sound great :)

Re: What's the best Chorus Pedal?

So it would seem that those in the lead would be:

Boss DC2
Boss DC3
Visual Sound Liquid Chorus or H2O
Analogman Stereo Chorus
TC

Hey Lew, if you like the CE-2, I would get it modded for stereo operation. The simple way is to split the dry and wet to separate outputs- it's a nice spacious sound without too much swirl. That would be my recommendation, as none of the pedals you listed have the same clean, bright sparkle as a CE-2. The more involved method is to add a small board that inverts the signal for the second output. I'm not sure I like that as much.

The other thing I've dreamed about is to make one from scratch using two CE-2 boards. Only populate one LFO and use the inverted waveform to feed the other board. That would result in a Dimension-style "motionless" chorus with the CE-2 sound. I really want to try this someday.

Re: What's the best Chorus Pedal?

The AnalogMan Chorus is amazing...Mike makes them in about 2 or maybe 14 different versions now and they all kick @ss! Wiht some tweaking and time spent learing the pedal you can cop the tones of the old CE1's and CE-2's as well as the old EH Small Clone and even the old TC chorus...it really is a great pedal and as you know I love Mike's work, some of the best pedals in the world say AnalogMan on them!

Im actually looking at a few different versions of his chorus because the CE-2 you turned me on to is great but I can't run 2 amps with it!:friday:

I realize you're probably trying to shrink rather than expand the list, but I wouldn't rule out the Retro-Sonic Stero Chorus or the Maxon CS-9!

Re: What's the best Chorus Pedal?

My EH Stereo Electric Mistress does fine for me. Turn down the flange and boom you have a straight up chorus.

Re: What's the best Chorus Pedal?

Yeah I stupidly sold mine back in the early 90's as it was my first Chorus pedal and the stigma of Arion as being the crappy dirt cheap effects made me think a Boss Super Chorus would be an upgrade.

Re: What's the best Chorus Pedal?

Question for you guys. Why do people like the CE-2? I have a Japanese one, but I never use it.

Re: What's the best Chorus Pedal?

the digitech chorus factory is able to clone (I tried, it works) vintage and modern boutique chorus pedals, except it is quieter. and cheaper than most.

i bought this pedal and concur ... i got it new for 15% off when music 123 had a sale .. even better ... i wanted to like the TC electronics, but it was hissy ...

I think it's one of the best mono chorus pedals ever...very subtle so not great if you want a fake leslie thing or if you want that over the top 80's chorus but for a nice subtle choruse it's great...

Some chorus pedals sound anywhere from slightly metallic to very metallic to me. Often they're the ones people rave about - like the TC! The CE-2 is warm and organic sounding. But it still has a lot of depth. I've used one for many, many years - since about 1980 or before. To me it has a very easy to listen to quality. It's my favorite mono pedal and the Dano Cool Cat is my favorite stereo pedal. The Dano sounds alot like a stereo CE-2. But I haven't tried any of these other pedals the guys are recommending: Analog Man, Virtual Sound Liquid Chorus, DC-2, DC-3, etc.
