whats the best overdrive or distortion pedal for a fender blues Jr?

well i got my fender blues junior, i love it cranked for classic rock but sometimes I feel like playing some high gain stuff , I was thinking a marshall jackhammer, or a digitech bad monkey or a boss sd1, anyone have experience with this amp and overdrives/distortion pedals? i want the pedal to do mid gain and high gain! thanks !

I'd use the BD-2 (Boss Blues Driver), but I'm partial to it anyways. But it should work as an all-frequencies gain: they even show how to use it as a volume boost pedal. Try one and see if it works for ya.

How good is the Bad Monkey as compared to the DS-1? The sound clips of the Bad Monkey are better than the ones from the DS-1, IMO. I wonder if that's just the clips though.

i've never read a bad thing about the bad monkey/Jr. combo! it think it would be hard to beat for the money...i'm tempted to buy one myself!?

This would be my first choice as well. Great range from super-clean to yummy crunch.

I use a Bad Monkey and a Crunch box and both pair up well with a JR. I use the Monkey for low gain and the Crunch box for high gain Marshall type tones.

I dug my old with TS808 with it. The Bad Monkey or Blues Driver would work well with it too, I bet.

This would probably sound amazing, but the pedal would cost more than the amp! :laugh2:

Wait for Sly to chime in.. he just bought the crunch box to pair with his Jr. I would vote for that also. Tried the Twin tube from duncan yesterday also through a Jr, didnt do high gain rythym, but the lead tones were great.

I really like the sounds of Boss overdrives and distortions. If you have an idea of a focused tone, consider a DigiTech, such as the Bad Monkey or Screaming Blues. But if you plan to spend some time twisting the knobs, go for a Boss. Boss pedals are inexpensive and reliable, and there are so many to choose from. I still want to send my BD-2 to Keeley, when I have the chance.

One more for the MI Audio Crunchbox. For $109 you can't beat it, built like a tank and sounds like one too! It will do AC/DC up to Slayer gain no problem. It's basically a boosted Marshall in a box. There is no better sounding high gain pedal out there IMO. www.miaudio.com

No.....the Bad Monkey is best at low to medium gain like a tubescreamer with more low end.

Another vote for the MI Audio Crunch Box. Out of a half dozen distortion pedals I tried it sounded best. I would have kept it if I didn't get the Splawn.
