What's the difference between the Distortion Neck and the Black Winter Neck?

Re: What's the difference between the Distortion Neck and the Black Winter Neck?

Yeah, I ended up with the BW-N. My guitar is at the tech's. I'll post a review once I get it back. My original plan was to put them in one of my Ibbies, but I was liking the clips so much, and I dug the concept of them being inspired by Scandinavian metal that I ended up taking my chances and having them installed in my favorite guitar. We'll see if they don't disappoint. :D

Heyo Rex, how'd the Black Winter neck turn out?

I like it! It's aggresive, focused, and fat but clear and not muddy at all. I like how a strong neck pickup reacts under tons of gain. The BW-N has a great clean tone as well that you wouldn't expect from this kind of pickup.

But as good as the cleans are, they haven't got that vintage warm yet shimmering voicing the Phat Cat it replaced had. The lead tone is much better on the BW-N, but the clean tone is a bit drier and more sterile (not that it's bad by any means, just not the same). I suspect adding the option for a coil tap of the neck pickup would more than likely bring it a notch closer, though, but I rarely ever play clean, so why bother? LOL.
