What's the difference between the Mesa Dual and Triple rectiers?

Re: What's the difference between the Mesa Dual and Triple rectiers?

ahh, I was waiting for some of the old timers to chime in, love Rid's comments on american amps.

Re: What's the difference between the Mesa Dual and Triple rectiers?

Just those obtuse Rectrumfriers....worst amps I ever have tried!
:D

+1. A old Mark IV, IIC+, III or Coliseum rule though!

Re: What's the difference between the Mesa Dual and Triple rectiers?

Sure....just let me pass on any of those!!

Hehehe naah dont worry, my faithful old JCM800 will never leave my side ;) :D

Re: What's the difference between the Mesa Dual and Triple rectiers?

And anything JCM as well:D
Modern POS stuff;)

LOL bugger off :D

But to be fair, I think with the plexitone that my sound is alot more hot-rodded Plexi than JCM800 :D

Re: What's the difference between the Mesa Dual and Triple rectiers?

does the solid state rectifier change the tone at all?

Changes the feel more than the tone. The solid state rectifier will give a stiffer feel and a more immediate attack... and as mentioned it'll sound tighter and a touch brighter. The tube rectifier will give it a looser feel and a more rounded pick attack.

Explaining tube rectifier feel to someone who hasn't used one yet is kinda hard. Think Jimmy Page's lead tone....

But.... you have to have the amp at somewhat high volumes before the sag really kicks in It really doesn't do anything at lower volumes since there's not that much demand for power placed on the amp.

Re: What's the difference between the Mesa Dual and Triple rectiers?

so its easier to get that cranked tone out of a 50 watt jcm than a 50 watt rectifier?

You don't get cranked tones out of a Rectifier, that's not the purpose of them.

Rectifiers are all about getting an extremely hot preamp to beat the living sh*t out of a clean power amp. That's how they get high gain amps to punch so hard and why there are very few low wattage high gain heads. Too much power amp compression and they loose the little dynamics that they have and turn too mushy poo.

Re: What's the difference between the Mesa Dual and Triple rectiers?

Do you dislike ALL modern amps?

The VHT Pittbull's etc?

Doubt it. I guess he is just tired of the evert constant american way of amplifier thinking.

"It has to be tight, true bypass, handwired, have 62 channels, do jazz, blues, fusion, bluesgrass, country, metal and rock good"

And I agree with him.

Re: What's the difference between the Mesa Dual and Triple rectiers?

Well i do like the attention to detail the american boutique amp makers have. I'd rather them be too much that way enclined than think "**** it, that's good enough".

Attention to detail = Looking like a birdsnest inside? Oooooookaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay.

Re: What's the difference between the Mesa Dual and Triple rectiers?

Of course, an American company copying a British design (MetroAmp), doesn't count there, does it Axl?

Of course not ;) :D And I like lots of american amps. Its just the typical builds you see that are quite not to my taste.

Well there are SOME amps which are overkill, but by "attention to detail" i mean ensuring all the components are the highest quality as well as the quality of craftsmanship- which is 2nd to none with the amps we're talking about.

VHT's aren't overkill at least.

I can understand a 3-channel amp being essential for a pro though. I'd ideally have independant channels for cleans, rhythm & lead.

The Mesa Recto's have excellent build quality. I can't fault any Mesa on build quality. Built like tanks!

Re: What's the difference between the Mesa Dual and Triple rectiers?

Yeah, I'd like to get a Mark III Boogie one day. I could care less for rectumfriers, but those Boogies have made some great tones.
