Interesting idea, I guess.
Usually the Dimarzio X2N is described as too hot and too shrill, but if you space one that far from the strings it would likely cancel out both of those traits AND you wouldn't have to worry about the magnetic string pull as much, either. I don't know if an L500XL will really work that far below the strings; I think they have a smaller magnetic window than a lot of other high-power humbuckers but could be wrong about that?
You definitely need something hotter than a PAF copy if you want volume balance with your bridge humbucker. And if you're going for a range of tones you probably don't want the same pickup in the neck and middle position.
I just bought a pair of BC Rich BDSM humbuckers on eBay on a whim to try the bridge pickup out. If you want to try the neck pickup, which is reportedly high output and bright as hell, I'll be happy to ship to you to try out if you'll pay the shipping. If you like it, keep it and if you don't like it just send it back to me (or keep it anyway - I really don't want the neck pickup at all).
