whats the most powerful passive pickup made today?

Re: whats the most powerful passive pickup made today?

I bought esp ltd with a custom 5 ..Its my new guitar for pickups...if the custom 5 don't work out....I am going to start looking for pickups Bass 8-10 O -Mids Treble 8-10

I want alot of bass...from the pickup cause its the only eq I use in the recording...my amp Bass in on 6 and Treb about 5...with no Mids..
so that means I need more bass from my pickups..if I add more bass on my amp..it colors my natural mids and highs out of the speaker..k100

all pickups have mids.

mids are where the bulk of a guitar's sound lives. no mids = no ability to cut through a mix of any sort.

for a guy who's supposedly into hi-fi sound from amps, I am surprised you don't understand the importance of mids.

Re: whats the most powerful passive pickup made today?

I really think you would be pleased with the invader. Don't let the miss scare you. They roar instead of honk
Very metal mid range. That being said I don't do the scooped thing. I'm usually bass and mid up with just enough treble for bite and articulation

Re: whats the most powerful passive pickup made today?

Manluis custom hot is pretty freaking powerful but it has a lot of mids. If its bass you be needing the go for the invader. If you want big bass relaxes mids and sharp top. Go for the sh-5. Its not near as hot as any of these other pups but is definatly high output in my opinion. I have got some awsomly brutal tones from the custom.
VERY powerful pickup there! Mine's HOT - 25k Ω, IIRC.

You do know the power doesnt come from the wind right? Resistance doesnt equal power my old HS4 yjm pickups are like 23k and have very little output

I am .....I have been scooping mids for over 8 years...its nothing new...but I close mic so..my mids have to be set on 0 on my amp..If I was a mid guy..I would go with a pickup with mids or a vintage 30...but it is personal preference.....

but in my tone..Mids eat Lows and Highs my harmonics and sustain are cut short with mids on 1 ...I should have my guitar with custom 5's today ....they scoop the mids..

Re: whats the most powerful passive pickup made today?

Yeah the custom 5 have the eq curve your wanting for sure. Also what about the Steve's speacail

Re: whats the most powerful passive pickup made today?

I think it would be the PATB Distortion. I heard some one hear made a tyranotiton it's suppose to be a super hot pup.

I think the PATB2 is another example of how DC resistance or wind really doesn't determine power. It is not low output by any stretch of the imagination, however it is not super hot either. Or doesn't behave like that. It doesn't even break up any of my clean channels unless I beat the hell out of the strings. Great crunch, umph and power though. If I had to rate it I'd say it's a shade hotter than the stock Custom or about on par with a Custom with a big ceramic in it.

Maybe he's going for that scooped 80's thrash sound.

Re: whats the most powerful passive pickup made today?

yes, the Motherbucker is superhot with huge ceramic mags, just as the OTT, but is it that awesome hot? no. not really. I have that pickup and it's NOT that hot. I think it may turn out a lot of voltage, but it's not that 'hot' when you play it because it just acts as a superbig compression pedal.

Kent told me it read 25.

The power comes from the magnet, correct? I guess this is what threw me - (Quoting Mick from the Manlius site here)

The bridge pickup is overwound using a special
grade and insulated magnet wire, which allows for a
great amount of power...

Whatever the case...this ****er is hot.

They don't need to stop looking at resistance, they just need to learn to take it into account along with other crucial factors, like wire gauge as you illustrate, magnet type, pickup design/coil geometry, etc. DCR is not the be-all/end-all spec but neither is completely ignoring it.

Warpig isn't all that hot, just high resistance figures because it's 45 awg.

X2N and the Invader are still kings in this department.

Most "power" comes from the magnet, for the record. People really need to stop looking at resistance figures to determine output.

Re: whats the most powerful passive pickup made today?

The most powerful passive PU's I have right now are a "Bill and Becky" L500 and a vintage BL L500 (equivalent of the modern XL): they produce +/- 1v of peak voltage, almost twice more than my Tone Zone, for example, and also much more than my Hot Rails etc... and they have flat low mids. They are not my bread and butter but they surely sound strong.

The X2N? It was my first aftermarket pickup 32 years ago. It sounded distorted, middy and blury but not THAT powerful. It was even on the weak side compared to Bill Lawrence's (!).

According to its builder, the most powerful PU currently on the market would be the Dommengett MuscleBucker.

I did... and its not super hot, it has the same output as a regular SH6, maybe just a tad more but not huge. The Tyrannotitan is a cross between and Sh6 and PATB2.

My mids on my Marshall TSL is always on 8

Re: whats the most powerful passive pickup made today?

I think the wilburn metalbucker is a serious contender 22.0 Kohm. I think there getting harder to find now. i cant seem to find them on the website anymore. I would love to get a few more.

Is dems the GODZ of pickups..never seen that thing before... and samples anywhere???

There are some floating around on YouTube. I think they might have some on their website too, but it is being revamped.

Re: whats the most powerful passive pickup made today?

Well I got my guitar..its the ESP LTD MB 327...with a Custom 5

I was also correct..because it scooped the mids..its is by far a better pickup for LEADS then the Dimebucker...The Sustain is Amazing and there is no noise..But I still have the problem with the low end..
So...I am going to need a Pickup with very Heavy Bass and NO MIDS and the Treble should be the same as the Bass...10-0-10 but scooping the mids is the way to go..I am 100% for sure about that..

Re: whats the most powerful passive pickup made today?

Steve's Special might be what you're looking for. It will get you a heavy sucked out mids tone.

Re: whats the most powerful passive pickup made today?

You might want to think about calling up the custom shop and have em whip you up something special.
