What's the name of that old multi-fx pedal

One of the earliest multi effects on the market, it was colorful and had 3 knobs, each one controlling a different effect.

Nevermind, it's a Shin Ei psychedelic machine. I'm thinking about building my own. Apparently I was misremember the number of knobs. I thinking about doing my own version of it.

Sounds like a fun project. That company pops up a lot when I’m looking for old fuzzes and such. I think they had a fuzz wah I wanted

I had never heard of that one! What makes it special? What's it sound like?

It's literally just a Univibe, Fuzz Face clone, and Octavia clone in the same box. It has no advantages (except convenience) or disadvantages over having all three of them separate.

However, I'm looking at doing my own, but with a few tweaks that play off the "psychadelia in a box" vibe

Yeah, I bet you could throw better versions of each of those in the same box easily, even if you are just combining 3 kits.

Yeah, imma tweak the effects as much as I can so that all 3 work together if this is your only pedal. Plus I might try to streamline the controls. You would lose an amount of freedom, but it would make it harder to get bad sounds out of it, as well as make you spend more time playing it than fiddling with knobs.

Also the original let you order the effects any way you wanted, but I'm thinking it would be better to hardwire it octave->univibe->fuzz. Maybe add a switch to swap the fuzz/univibe order.

Also because I forgot to mention it, I'm switching the Octavia out for a simple Octave pedal. It's a little redundant to me to have two fuzzs, even if one is an octave fuzz.

They also came in a "companion amp" format. You would put it above your amplifier head, this was back when people where still experimenting with the format of effects. I think that version had a Super Fuzz instead of a Fuzz Face and didn't have an Octavia.

shin ei makes the best sounding univibe ive heard, doyle bramhall used a vibe-bro for a while and it sounded amazing

I’ve got the FoxRox Captain Coconut 2. It’s the same idea but with Dave Fox tweaked versions of all three circuits. It’s fantastic.

If I remember correctly the Captain Coconut has the option to switch the fuzz and the univibe. Which configuration do you use more? Usually I'm vibe->fuzz if the amp is clean and fuzz->vibe If the amp is dirty.
