What's the next 50th Anniversary release?

jb/jazz and 59 were early models, id guess theyd keep that trend going, but what do i know

Pearly would be good, or a suite of Customs.

Also, let's not forget the Strat line: a suite of SSLs would be in order. A Seymour-wound set of SSLs would be every bit as good (and valuable) as the Seymour-wound Jimi Hendrix set.

It would probably be easy to guess if you remember what pickups were released 50 years ago....
SH-3? I don't really know my Duncan history, so I'm just taking a guess.

I don't remember what the SH-3 was supposed to be. Was it the Stag Mag? Because they have the SH-1, 2, and 4 as limited editions now.

The Mag pre-dated the StagMag. I'd like to have one of them, and/or a neck model StagMag or TheMag as a neck model.

But alas, Anniversaries are reserved for the most 'popular' pickups, so...

I've always wondered how they decided their numbering system. The Jazz & JB came first, and are SH-2 and SH-4 respectively. The 59, which came later, is the SH-1.

I think there's a difference between the date they came up with the model vs the actual date it was released as a production pickup to the public. My understanding is the 59 (using A2 at the time) was originally based off the pickups in Jeff Beck's Oxblood Les Paul, which would have been one of the first reproducible pickups Seymour might have made.

At mid 70ies you could not order pickup making parts from a online store like today. My guess is that Seymour used parts of dead pickups and did rewind these in the 59 style. So maybe the first Jazz was a T-Top, maybe the JB a jazzed up older Gibson pickup.

How does The Mag or the Stag Mag sound in full series humbucker mode? Is it any good or is it kinda like the P Rails where it's pretty clear that was not the priority when designing it?

Stag Mag sounds like a Custom Custom, but a little more vintage/PAF/Alnico 2 Pro soft in the bottom end. Stag Mag works well in all coil configurations IME.

I have an 84 Explorer in the shop currently that is getting a "The Mag" put in the bridge (the secret Hetfield pickup). I will let you know when i get it back what it sounds like.
