What's up with my amp?

So I was at band practice today, and I noticed something on - whenever I used any of my fuzz pedals, if I had the guitar volume up all the way, it would feed back really badly. I was busy with practice, so I didn't pay too much attention, but I believe that it was a little better if I backed up on the volume of the pedal. I didn't rule out the guitar I was using though, but I've got no idea what the guitar could have to do with it. I tried plugging into both channels on my amp, and I still had the same problems. Any ideas?

Re: What's up with my amp?

sounds like fuzz pedals doing what they do. Do they get radio stations when you turn your volume down to zero too? Sometimes mine will in different places.

Re: What's up with my amp?

Nah, this definitely isn't normal. I've always been able to turn my amp to 6 with the fuzz on and my guitar volume all the way up with no feedback.

Re: What's up with my amp?

Maybe the guitar got too warm somewhere and the wax potting got disturbed? Maybe it got too cold and the wax got brittle and was then knocked? After that I'm running out of ideas.

Re: What's up with my amp?

Maybe a microphonic tube? I've heard pre and power tubes can go microphonic but I've never dealt with that situation.

The Bassman channels share two preamp tubes so maybe that's why you're getting the feedback on both channels. Just a guess, dunno if microphonic tubes can cause feedback like that but it's something to look into.

Re: What's up with my amp?

You have some trouble shooting to do. Try same setup with different guitar. Then swap out the pedal. Then swap out the amp. You will find the culprit soon enough.

Re: What's up with my amp?

it's probably a microphonic something or the other...most likely a tube or a pickup

Off topic, but my Number one has always done that since day one.... and it´s always been the same russian-speaking station, whether I was in Milan or Berlin. We actually used that as an intro to the Live show a few times during the Suffersystem days, everything on 11, house level maxed out, and listen to Radio Komradski for 2-3 minutes... Thankfully the sound guys were on their feet enough to turn the masters and my guitar down when we started playing, or I´d probably still be incarcerated for mass murder using a musical instrument (which would be ultimately cool and ultramegasuck at the same time) :laugh2:
