I read the specs in the catalog

anyone know?

Re: whats with the Peavey ValveKings?

Going with 'good' underrated amp. I was impressed when I got to play one a little while ago. Wasn't hard at all to find a bunch of great tones. Didn't really dig the reverb too much though.

Re: whats with the Peavey ValveKings?

There not all bad there worth $250 thats for sure. I will stick with my jsx tho

Re: whats with the Peavey ValveKings?

They are decent amps, but spending some extra money to retube them and put a new speaker in them really helps.

Re: whats with the Peavey ValveKings?

A new speaker is a must. But curiously the stock green Valveking 12" speaker sounds great in my Orange 1-12 closed back cabinet.

Re: whats with the Peavey ValveKings?

I have the 50 watt combo and the head. They sound better after mods are done. I did the 'Mesa' mod on the 112 to give it a lower mid voicing. I turned R100 into a variable noise gate by putting a 1 Meg pot there, took out the texture knob so it's always on ab mode and it's louder this way. The noise gate pot sits where the texture knob once was. And I also did the 'JCM 800' mod switchable via the volume switch and disabled the volume boost function as it was pointless for me. Did all of those things on the head as well except the mesa mod. Well I did half of that mod; the part that lowers the gain and turns the gain button into a fat/tight switch. The voicing is still the same on the had. Also, I switched the clipping diodes/noise gate to red LEDs giving the amps a tubier feel and letting the noise gate cut more noise if needed. I never use the thing really. The head sounds like a poor mans DSL/JCM 800 clone now. It's not bad, but I like my 6505+ with the original spec mod and bias mod more;)

My lead guitarist uses a ValveKing half stack and it's pretty righteous. He doesn't use any distortion on the high gain channel so it's got a pretty good overdrive sound right off the bat.

Re: whats with the Peavey ValveKings?

Hmmm
I woulda thought the knob for Class A / Class A/B blend would have been a cool addition

either way for an all tube 50 watt combo

it aint bad

brand new they arent much more

hmmmm

Re: whats with the Peavey ValveKings?

The texture knob is a gimmick. It cuts the current on one side of the phase inverter giving the power section an unbalanced signal. It doesn't actually change the power section between push-pull to constant or cut a power tube or anything like that. That's why I took it out, I always have it on ab.

Actually it does a pretty good job of approximating a class A circuit. It progressively removes signal from one side of the output section while keeping the push-pull function intact, quelling the hum inherent with a true class A circuit. At the class A setting, roughly 10% of the signal is reaching the "unused" side of the output...enough to round out any square-waving that may onset. Another company does something similar but they call it Simul-class.

Different strokes I guess. I could see low gain and clean players liking it tho. I thought it only affected the phase inverter, you would know more than I Glassman:)

Ive played a couple in stores. They sound decent but I found them to be kinda lackluster. A buddy has one and he said there is a click and slight delay when switching channels. May be a bad one though. The 3120 is way more appealing to me than the vk.

Re: whats with the Peavey ValveKings?

I yanked that texture knob crap out of mine. Opened up the amp a bunch. Going to try a global master volume later today.
