whats wrong with squier or epiphone pups???

Re: whats wrong with squier or epiphone pups???

Funny because own both a squire and an epi. I bought the squire a long time ago, so I don't really remember much about the stock pups. Not horrible if I remember correctly, but not great either. I have a Hotrails and JBjr in my squire and it sounds terrific.

I just bought my epi a few weeks ago. I gotta agree with others here, the stock pups weren't bad at all. I was quite impressed as I remember that they used to be horrid. I still replaced them with Duncans though. The stocks were just....again agree with another poster here...kind of lifeless. They were OKAY. But they didn't have great crunch with my distortion, didn't have good pick attack, didn't have really good sustain, no harmonics, they were just...dead.

Now this is coming from someone who's played Duncan's for a long time. If those stocks were the first I'd heard, I'd be like woah they rock. Compared to my Duncan's though, well there is no comparison. I'd say try out some different pups and go with what you think based on what you hear.

I do remember my first experience with Duncan's. I had an old Westone as my first guitar. It had some crappy EMG passive pups in it. I played it for about 2 or 3 months with those. Then I replaced the bridge with a Duncan Custom. It was like 12 years ago now, but I VIVIDLY remember my reaction. It was like my guitar woke up. Like I woke up. It was a darn epiphany! I was like woah! As of that day I'd never go with stock, or just sub par, pups again, just based on the difference that they made in that old cheap guitar. I still have it and play it too! :)
