What’s you tuner pedal?

The wife said she might run by GC tomorrow and asked if there’s anything I want. No, this isn’t a common thing, she’s getting last minute Christmas things. There’s many pedals I’d like, but I think a new tuner pedal is what I need most. I have a black Snark that’s been okay, but I think I’d like one of the more popular and reliable tuners. Plus the Snark seems to take longer to grab a note than I’d prefer.

I know the Boss TU-2 is used by many, but the Polytune seems to be well liked too. What tuner do you use, and is there a reason you like it over others?

I used a Planet Waves Tuner given to me by Evan Skopp for a long time.

Lately I've been using the onboard tuners for my Zoom multi fx's

I still like the Snark for certain situations.

My primary pedal tuner is a Korg Pitchblack. I chose it because they're readily available, cheap, more accurate than a TU-2, and because I don't care for the way the display works on the Poly Tuner. I've also used Korg tuners on my pedal boards for over 15 years, so it was easy to stick with what I know.

My other pedal tuner is a Sonic Research Turbo Tuner, but it's too much of a temperamental PITA to use for anything besides intonation or possibly recording when I need tuning to be as close to perfect as possible.

Many good options out there. Never had issues with Boss, Korg. I went through two TCs that didn’t pickup the low E in Poly mode so I would avoid them.

I’ve owned two Polytune pedals and the Polytune clip-on, and I’ve never used poly mode on any of them. I like them for everything else they do.

Mine is made by Guyatone, and remarkable as it is one of the few able to be seen in direct sunlight (important in Florida).

The new Boss TU-3 (which isn't that new anymore) is more accurate than the TU-2. Right now I use the tuner in my GT-1000 (which also has a poly mode), but I also have a Polytune (not sure if it is version 1 or 2) that I kept from my pedalboard. I've used the Boss TU-2 also, the Polytune and the TU are great tuners, never had an issue with either of them. The poly feature is nice for quick checks and if something is out it goes straight to single string tuning if you just hit the string that is out, definite plus for playing out.

I had an old Korg at some point, but it was noisy, maybe I just had a bad one.

I use a TU-2 on stage front next to my boost and overdrive, and then a TC Polytune on my pedal board side stage on my AMP AKA the "the no touchy board"

So quickies between songs are done with the TU2 and then if walk over to the AMP or to the side and change an Amp setting or turn on the Vibrato, Shifter, Modulation -I have the Polytone always on.


back in the day I had KORG that attached to my Marshall head.

I’ve had the same Strobostomp on my board for the past 10 years. One of my better gear purchases.

I've got a blue StroboStomp on my bench to set intonation. Super accurate, a bit slow, and not quite as durable as the Boss pedals.

I keep a Boss TU-2 on my acoustic pedalboard.

A TU-3 on my electric board. More accurate than the TU-2, but slower, tinkier to tune. I like that it has a bright display mode, making it easier to read in sunlight. I bought the Waza version, but haven't installed it yet.

Won a Pitchblack mini in a contest but haven't tried it yet. It may replace the TU-12H in my jam bag.

There's a couple of Snark Super Tight clip-ons around for the acoustics.

I have a Shure tuner/wireless on my Splawn board. Works great. No issues.
On my Blackstar board I have an old Korg DT-10(?). I’ve had that pedal for more than 10 years now and has always worked flawlessly.

TU-2 for me, been rock solid. Once that goes it'll either be a TU-3 or a polytune

I have DT-10 as well. Really solid piece!

I just use a Snarky clip on. Saves space on the board and is very accurate. As long as you don't have a brain fart and let the battery run out. Which I've never done...okay....I have.

I have the same one on my board. I also have a mini polytune for my acoustic board and the couple of small Planet Waves clip ons for my Martin and Collings that don’t have electronics in them.

All of them work quite well, but most fond of the Peterson for the sweetened tunings.

i have a '95 boss tu2 that is still kicking. i dont keep it inline since i dont love the buffer. i have a few headstock tuners and a nice stobe on the bench but this old box keeps kickin so i see no reason to replace it
