What's your favourite Fat Strat bucker?

Or what about concentric pots with a switch to choose between 500k and 250k depending on which pickup you're using at the time?
Hadn't thought about that. Good idea there. But it would require switching the pickup selector and then switching the concentric pot rather than just flip the switch and bam, done. Right?

Re: What's your favourite Fat Strat bucker?

i was just going over the list of pickups in my head that i have used in one form or strat or super strat in the bridge...all with 500k pots.

Duncan:
EVH/'78
'59
JB (and 80s JBJ)
Custom Custom
PATB-1
Distortion
Invader
Dimebucker
hot rails and JB Jr. (ok, so they aren't full size hums)

Dimarzio:
Tone Zone
Virtual Hot PAF
Breed
X2N
FRED
Super Distortion
Super 3
Drop Sonic
Air Zone

EMG:
81
85

Evans:
hot bridge hum (forgot actual name E2L perhaps?)

Schaller:
Hot Stuff

Schecter USA:
80's blade humbucker

(i may have missed something)

man i've used lots of stuff in strat like guitars LOL. next up i'm going to give the Custom 5 a shot i think.

again, as for favorite, it's hard to pick since each do certain things well i guess you can say. i can tell you i hated the X2N though and found the EMG 81 too agressive/edgy (but i like the 85, great for high gain Drop D too). the Virtual Hot PAF, PATB-1 and Evans didn't spend much time in guitars so i want to give each of them a shot again since i didn't dislike them, just never gave them a fair try.

Your mama.................... what a minute, it says strat humbucker after "whats your favorite fat" LOL!

Hey ErikH,
Can you explain more on how to do the resistor thing, and materials I would need? I'm putting together an EVH '78, and two APS-1's. Switching will be:

1-neck
2-neck/middle
3-mid
4-mid/bridge split
5-bridge

And I will have one tone pot for the neck pickup, and one for the bridge humbucker. I've been wondering how to get all the pickups to sound and work good since they need different value pots. :)

Thanks!

I've tried an Invader, JB, and APH1. I definitely like the APH1 the most. I guess my tastes have changed since I started, but it feel the most balanced of all 3. Not real bassy or too trebly. It sounds great clean, especially with the tone rolled back for a nice jazz sound.

I like the Custom Custom as well, though my HSS setup isn't a true HSS setup. I've got rails in the neck and middle.

Hey Tone,

Actually, the way I explained it is how it's done. I really can't explain it any more than that. I may have a diagram soon though. But in the meantime, read over the explanation again but with one of Seymour's schematics in front of you. Let me know if it clicks.

BTW, that's gonna be a killer combo.
