What's your favourite reverb pedal?

I NEED HELP123

hey, I am looking into buying my first pedals and was looking into reverbs and wondered which reverbs sound the best.

What do you guys think is the best reverb pedal to use with distortion for $140 max?

Re: What's your favourite reverb pedal?

What type of Reverb sound? (Spring, plate, room/hall, crazy modulated, etc.)
Do you use amp distortion or pedal distortion? Does your amp have a loop?

Re: What's your favourite reverb pedal?

EHX Ocean 11, but then you would need to get the Canyon to go with it. ;)

Re: What's your favourite reverb pedal?

And what style of music? Not the same to use plate for ambient or P&W or classic rock.

sorry I forgot to mention that.

I am planning to use amp distortion and my amp has an effects loop.

I think I want to go with a plate/room reverb but I'm not quite shure. I just want a reverb that sounds good:)

My partial intention for this thread was to see what other people's preferences are, so pls also mention what you like personally!

Re: What's your favourite reverb pedal?

A Neunaber Wet ended my search, I just went with an older V2 mono version.

Re: What's your favourite reverb pedal?

Ahhh - reverb. Tons of good choices these days. In the loop or after distortion almost always the right choice! The biggest issue, IMO, is do you have a favorite and just want some "on all the time or occasionally". Or are you really digging deep for just the right "ambiance' from track to track....

Some thoughts - and I am by no means up on the latest/greatest....

#1 The TC Hall Of Fame in full size or mini seems to be a no-brainer these days, especially with tone print. Full disclosure - never used it, but have heard it. Too much good press on all of those TC boxes to ignore.

#2 A personal fave of mine: Boss RV-3 Reverb/Delay. A few reverbs, and a Delay, and reverb + delay! An oldie but a goody! Delay Reverb combo can be epic/awesome. Or just go for room/plate/hall...

#3 For basic set & forget reverb - I am a huge fan of the Uber-organic stylings of the EHX Holy Grail, or even better the Holy Grail Plus. These come in 'nano' size these days - meaning regular pedal size to most people. Great option for just plain old amp style spring - which is actually a lot of the reverb we all know/love anyway....

#4 Hard to hate on the Line6 Verbzilla. It's the Swiss Army box of Reverbs.

If it’s to figure out what you like, get any multi reverb. My rec would be Boss RV-6. TC HOF and the EHX mentioned before are fine as well. Once you figure out the mode you like it’s easier to recommend something specific. Or maybe you’re set with what you get.

I personally use the reverbs on my MS-3 for normal sounds (replaced a HOF) and an Alexander Sky Fi for more ambient-y things. In the past I’ve also really liked the Digitech Supernatural.

Re: What's your favourite reverb pedal?

Catalinbread Topanga. It’s a spring emulation, and an exquisitely good one.

thanks for your suggestions so far!:bigthumb:

I think it's a great idea to buy a multi reverb so I can experiment a bit with diffirent kinds of reverb and figure out what I like.

Aceman knows his reverbs... The two I have experience with in this list ang highly recommend are the Hall of Fame and the Verbzilla. Both affordable and sound great.

Re: What's your favourite reverb pedal?

My favorite reverb has got to be the EMT 140 (real plate).

A real world example (with pics) can be found here:

https://reverb.com/item/939508-emt-140-plate-reverb

That being said, naturally I would go with a Catalinbread Talisman if I used a reverb pedal live (which I don't live; I use delay only).

I normally use reverb VSTs (EMT140 emu's etc) and an EHX Cathedral for studio work.

In which case I'll repeat my suggestion of Ocean 11. That thing has got 11 mutha chumpin' kinds of reverb, including reverse reverb.

You know, I can’t believe I haven’t tried it yet. What modes do you like best?

How’s the infinite?

Re: What's your favourite reverb pedal?

I honestly just stick with the plain old spring setting, but the more niche effects on there sound like something out of a $200+ unit. I don't really care for the infinite mode, but that's because I don't go for the lush, spacey tones that this mode was intended for.

Another thing to consider is that each knob has a secondary function in most settings, so you actually have 5 different knobs and a variety of "modes" for each setting.

If you are new to Reverb I would recommend (along with Ace) the TC Hall of Fame, lots of options to experiment with and you also download lots of artist toneprints from the TC electronic website. I've used one before and if I wasn't using a GT-1000 now, I would have a HoF.

The Oceans 11 or Boss RV-5 would be good runner ups, pretty much the same price but without the downloadable/software tweakable toneprints.

These are all around $150 new, should be able to find used ones on ebay/reverb for around $100.

Re: What's your favourite reverb pedal?

Yeah the Hall of Fame mini or regular one will do all the regular reverbs you want, and a few strange ones. If you don't need all the control and space sounds of something like a Silver Lake, go for the cheap Mini, and velcro it to the back of your amp.
