What's your Opinion on Hagstroms?

Basically as the title says. I was at GC buying bass strings, and I saw a used Hagstrom Viking II in Black Cosmic Burst (quoted from Hag's website). It sounded pretty good, but I also focus on how well it holds up. I don't want to be doing maintenance on it every month.

So how do they hold up, what is a decent used price (they want $350), and is it worth it to buy one or am I better off spending the money fixing up this MIM Fender J-bass that I have sitting in pieces right now?

I have a Viking (semi hollow 335 style).
Does as well as an Epi dot. The tone certainly seemed clearer, and the original pickups are certainly better than an Epi. I've currently got some Gibson Tarbacks in mine courtesy of my 85 SG....really nice guitar now

No. I mean its like any guitar - you check it out to see if it plays well and you like how it feels.

I got a Hagström Viking Deluxe 12-string in Wild Cherry Transparent and it's bloody amazing: http://www.hagstromguitars.eu/index.php?option=com_zoo&task=item&item_id=1892&category_id=9&Itemid=6
Incredibly easy to play for a 12-string, great electronics and the finish is pretty much flawless. I couldn't be happier with mine.
Generally, Hagström is well regarded as far as I know. Never heard anyone saying anything bad about a Hagström.
But then again, I live in Sweden. :P

I really like how it sounds and everything, but I just don't want it to always be in pieces because of ****ty construction.

I had super swede... great sounding guitar but the sound would cut out when I switched to the neck pickup at one point but then it mysteriously went away

Re: What's your Opinion on Hagstroms?

For those of you that have a recent Hagstrom, what do you think of the composite fingerboard they are using these days?. Does it feel and sound like Rosewood or Ebony?. I think they use it on all of their modern guitars.

Re: What's your Opinion on Hagstroms?

My first electric guitar was Hagstrom II. It was a great guitar & I learned "How" to play on that guitar. Unfortunately I had to sell it in order to fund my new guitar( a 1963 Jaguar). The Jag was stolen so I would up with my 1968 SG standard which I still have today.

The originalk Hagstrom's were made in Sweden. They were really cool guitars and had great playability. They really were a "poor mans Strat" I really hated selling that guitar and always wanted another one so About a year ago I bought a '65 Hagstrom I. I couldn't find a II that was right so I bought this one. Its very cool and plays great. I had it refretted and now it plays even better.

I believe the newer ones are made in either Korea or China. They are pretty cool but a far cry from the originals. The originals were pretty unique as nobody else made anything that was really similar.
