What's Your Recommendation on a Smooth, Warm, Transparent OD?

I'm looking for a nice coat on my new amplifier and the funds are there!

Got my eye on the Fulltone Full Drive II...

What do you think?

Well I like my Smart People Factory green line but the only amps ive ever even tried it with are my V1512 and my buddies Blues Jr. It sounded good with those but I have no idea what it is like in general.

What amp is it?

Hermida Zendrive

The new FD II MOSFET I just got might get you there with a tweak here & there and the added boost is a plus.

Warm and Transparent?

Isn't that like asking for hot chocolate but you want it to taste just like the water did?

Gearjoneser talks about the Klon very highly, my fave warm/smooth transparent OD is the Lovetone Brown source, Bonzai has a unit that I belive fits the bill here but Im not sure which one it is (Gearjoneser will know), and based on the sound clips I have heard the Fulltone OCD stays pretty true to your original tone...

+1. You read my mind.

Warmth refers to a euphonic sound, and is, by it's own definition, coloured. Transparent refers to the fact that the pedal is doing nothing to colour the tone.

I agree with Christian, and think Gearjoneser will say the Klon...and probably be right!

But since I've never owned a Klon, I'll say a MIJ Boss DS-1!

Damage Control Womanizer can be warm or transparent, depending on how you EQ it. I like my FD2, too, but the WMZR is more flexible and provides a great direct out for recording that slays my POD XT. It ain't cheap, but it's very, very good.

What's wrong with the overdriven tone of the amp?

Re: What's Your Recommendation on a Smooth, Warm, Transparent OD?

I hear great things about the $39 Digitech Bad Monkey.

Re: What's Your Recommendation on a Smooth, Warm, Transparent OD?

Yeah, I thought about this thread today and questioned the whole warmth/transparent contradiction...but I hope you know what I mean...when I say transparent, I'm not talking about a clean boost, but I want something that won't DRASTICALLY color the tone.

I should've stated it like that in the first place...anyway, thanks!

For Rob, the IIC+ has these upper mids that are pretty hard for me to get along with when playing rhythm. So to compensate, the slight V shape on the graphic EQ. However, with this engaged, I miss out on a balanced tone. This is where I'm looking for a pedal's help. I'm after a smoother midrange.

I think its more like warm water

Re: What's Your Recommendation on a Smooth, Warm, Transparent OD?

the Barber LTD is known for this type tone. I haven't tried one though.

I'd recommend the Maxon OD808, and just turn down the drive. These pedals can be fairly subtle, depending on how you set them, and they have less coloration than a TS9.

Warm? Transparent? Smooth mids? I'll have to second Puckboy's recommendation for the Hermida Zendrive ;).

Re: What's Your Recommendation on a Smooth, Warm, Transparent OD?

I hear the Lovepedal Eternity is a med-high gain OD...

Will it be too much for the lead channel of my MB Mark IIC+? Can it be tamed to be a sweet, smooth boost with a little kick on the mid frequencies?

I use a Barber LTD for a smooth cleanish overdrive tone. It doesn't have a ton of gain, but it don't sound all squashed either.

Duncan Booster, the best transparent boost I have come across. Absolutely love it!!!
