When choosing pickups...

When choosing pickups, should both the neck and bridge pickup me made out of the same wire? Im having problems matching a high output beidge pickup with a 57 classic neck pickup..

Re: When choosing pickups...

Absolutely not. The neck slot is inherently loud, dark, and bassy. The bridge slot is naturally bright & sharp. Totally different animals. No reason PU's are required to have the same wire, or magnet, etc. Use what sounds best in each position, that's what we do. We come up with our own pairs. You don't get bonus points for being neat and tidy and matching things.

I've really enjoyed matching hotter bridge pickups with different wire/magnets with lower output neck pickups. Especially matching them together, SH-6 distortion sounded great combined with SH-2 Jazz clip.Sometimes the extreme differences between bridge and neck can sound good together. Also, I've never cared about matching output, I prefer the neck pickup to be tamed for clean sounds.
