Re: When did you pick up your first Mighty Axe???
If I started at 4 and a half or 14 and a half... Is a fairly good question. I got my first guitar from my grand parents in the awesome Christmas of 1990. It was a really cheap acoustic guitar, with the strings almost a centimeter away from the neck at the 12th fret. Almost instantly I started fretting notes as far up as possible, as it in my ears sounded like Clapton's round soloing tone. I'd also put playing cards or sandwich paper in between the strings and strum them. It sounded like a quite horrible fuzz box. I'd repeat this every now and then for a few years, but due to a horrible music teacher in preliminary school, nothing more happened. During this period, I listened mostly to Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix and Queen.
That is, until I turned 14 and a half. A few years earlier, some of my best friends at the time had turned me onto Iron Maiden, Pink Floyd, Metallica, Pantera, The Offspring, Green Day and Rage Against The Machine. I became obsessed. After almost half a year of lobbying from my friends, and music classes, I finally decided to put my above-shoulders face out of my below-shoulders face, and started taking lessons. Which was a really good thing for me. Suddenly, I also became a social being. With self confidence. Then I heard progressive metal. And died. :joke:
Through progressive metal as well as the bands afore mentioned, I discovered a million other genres, such as jazz, death metal and of course jazzy progressive death metal.
Anyway, I guess the real answer is 14.
