when will Marshall offer new gear?

Anyone know when Marshall will be offering or upgrading some new product?
I have amp gas (AAS) and want to get a new Marshall, but their current line of solid state and hybrid amps needs improvement.

Anyone have any inside word as to when we can expect to see something new from Marshall? If so, whats it gonna be?

They seem to be concentrating on thier vintage reissues and hindwired stuff at the moment... the AVT and MG range arent that old really. The DSLs and TSLs are still selling well, i should think they are going to keep pushing the expensive stuff for now.

Its all handwired right now. They are making a smart move getting back on top of the vintage rock sound heap. I don't know how well the Mode 4 sold but I don't know a person who owns one. That might have been the thing that made them get back to the basics.

I think Marshall's gonna hafta kick it into high gear soon because there's a LOT of companies right now that are pretty well known among guitarists that make amps that do the Marshall thing better than Marshall does it for 1/2 of the price of a new handwired Plexi RI. I think if they don't step up to the plate and kick it up soon then their modern tube amps may suffer a fall from popularity and never quite recover. JCM800's on back have earned their spot in the books but in 20 years whos gonna be playing DSL50s? Not me... I'd rather have a Stiletto Deuce.

Thanks for that link, it was very informative.

I'm a Marshall die hard, but the stuff they currently have out now needs serious improvement. Their solid state stuff now sounds cheap IMO. Vox is making a hybrid amp that sounds much better for just about the same price. Marshall's Valvestate line is good, but could be better. I think other companies are making hybrid amps that can do the Marshall sound better than Marshall. If Marshall improved their valvestate line, they could drop that SS stuff. The money they save from that could go towards more tube combos and head re issues. Its a shame when Marshall defines a sound, but is getting beat at their own game. They gotta put out something new and practical otherwise loyalists like me just might end up getting a vox or fender instead...

what marshall needs is a real deal high gain all tube amp not this BS mode 4 crap..that's where they are lacking IMO. everyone has a marshall like amp and some are way better than the marshalls (voodoo, splawn etc) and even mesa now...but Marshall doesn't have anything with real balls (think diezel, mesa and engl when i say balls) with a nice thick low end...

Maybe they should just get an old schematic of an 800 or a Jubilee and just remake them exactly as they were. Seems to be the most popular Marshall amps, why not duplicate them?

However, I do think the DSL series are pretty good. I play one one every time I'm at guitar center, pretty decent heads.

I don't know any company doing the Marshall thing ( meaning PTP handwired amps) at 1/2 the price unless you are building it yourself. The thing no other maker has is the name Marshall that carries lots of mileage. The 2000 line is a batch of very solid amps ( for the most part, Gary Moore and Jeff Beck have used them live for years), they reissued the 800 and the Jubillee ( Slash) have a very solid non PTP Ri Plexi line which I own and love. In that sense they are listening to the consumer wants and the new handwired line is a further reflection of that. I feel they have spent way too much time nurturing the bottom end market with the VS line and the SS jibber jabber, that is what makes it easy to bash them for. Outside of that I have found Mitchell Colby very open and honest in his discussions on other forums regarding Marshall. They are kinda in a can't win position. They still got the tone, now they just have to get the goods on the shelves.

I agree with this 100%. So many people talk about how wonderful the hot-rodded Marshalls sound and how rarely anyone leaves them stock (particularly the 800, plexis et al). Why not just incorporate some of the popular mods from the get-go? Have they forgotten that Slash put the modded-800 on the map after Appetite for Destruction was recorded in the studio? For some of us, that amp's tone is infamous and is very desireable. I'm sure Marshall would sell quite a few amps by hot rodding a few stock pieces in a limited run.

Without a doubt, Splawn's stuff is great and so are Voodoo's mods (from what I hear). Marshall just needs to adapt to the market.

I know Bogners cost a small fortune, but at least when you plug in, you go "F### YEAH!

I've plugged into nearly every single Marshall ever made, even killer modded ones.
The Ecstasy eats'em up and spits them out, then starts looking for Fenders and Mesas for dessert.

My opinion is that Marshall still kicks major ass. I play a Gibson Les Paul through a TSL100 halfstack, and i can do virtually anything with it and i dont use any external effects ( the one thing i wanna get me is the Vox V847). Some guitars though, sound better through a different amp, like Fender guitar through a Fender amp, made so that they work best together (or so i've heard)
My dream set-up would be either 3 JCM800 (clean, rhythm and lead) or 3 Jubilees (haven't quite decided which) with Gibson Les Pauls
And besides, what's cooler than having a wall of Marshalls while playing concerts :laugh2:

I think that's another issue that Marshall isn't adressing.

Alot of folks that once HAD to have a half-stack or a full-stack now realize that they need smaller amps for whatever reasons.

They've also got the money to do something like go botique. There's a certain appeal to going with a small company that makes a limited number of amps but does them hand-wired, and they do them with all the little mods and tweaks that have made the amps better than they were stock.

Marshall has kind of stopped innovating and stopped really looking where alot of the money is. Alot of kids want a Mode 4, but an older guy who has incrimentally more funds at his disposal is looking for something a little better than "standard production" for his PRS Dragon.

They also got themselves a reputation along the way. A guitar player I once knew used to say "Every guitar player needs to make the mistake of owning a Marshall once in their lives". It was a tongue in cheek statement but it illustrated some of the real problems the amps had with reliability.

Doing the 18 watters is a nice gesture on their part, but the pricing is way too high. Same with the Plexis. For that sort of money a buyer can go botique and get essentially what Marshall is offering, but with the tweaks and upgrades that years of techs have figured out.

Mrashall could learn alot from Fender; their Reissue amp series are phenomenal and even being PCBs get DAMNED close to the originals.



...and let's be fair.....Jeff Beck could play through the cheapest amp and still sound great.

i have a hotrodded Jcm800 at 10w, the thing sounds tremendous, though its not actaully made by marshall but by a british boutique company, i played the Zakk wylde Jcm800 2203 and it sounded heavy as hell, though the gain wasnt exactly high it certainly beats the tsl for heavyness, i cant fault the Dsl i think its a great amp and needs no changing, i think that Marshalls avt range doesnt need updating it always has been and still is in my oppinion the best sounding budget high gain amp range around, i have my jcm800 and a 5150 and sure you can tell a valve amp when you hear one and they do sound better but whenever i record i use my avt150 simply because it sounds amazing, old marshalls and new are covered (though it doesnt do a very convincing low gain jcm800 or plexi), but the avt range is hybrid and analogue so basecly a very affordable high gain and bloody good sounding amp, none of those modeling amps come close for actual tone. i think marshall are doing alright for themselves and have people in all price ranges catered for, though i didnt really see much point in the mode 4, redicoulous power hybrid amp that was intended for the upper market rock/metal guitarist, who obviously is going to go elsewhere, Peavey XXX,5150,Jsx Marshall Jcm800, mesa single/dual/triple rect, Hughs n kettnar Warp T/X etc etc i can name so many amps that would be in the same catagory and i know that most people will pay the extra bit of money for the better amp, if marshall had made the mode4 a valve amp with actual plexi/jtm45/jcm800 etc wiring for the vintage sounds and some modern cirquit for a really high gain metal/modern sound then maybe it would be an amp that we are all gasing for instead of talking about how crap it is, i have tried it and i didnt like it either to be honest.

it still cracks me up how marshall discontinue models just because they're old.. the 800s are still arguably the most popular amp they made, but they phased it out for the 900's (which arent too bad, i dont mind the ones in practice rooms)... now all that went out for the JCM 2000s.. again, more buzzy at hi-gain than the 900s....

you guys are right, marshall needs a hi-gainer... the mode four was horrible. and expensive, especially considering the extra cost of a 350(+)w cab..

They were discontinued because they were not selling.

In the last year, Marshall introduced the hand wired series which includes the 18 watt combo, 20 watt head and 100 watt plexi (with assorted cabs). Eventually there will be more hand wired amps and not all of them reissues.
