When your band members taunt you to buy a full stack....

Re: When your band members taunt you to buy a full stack....

Just buy two blown out 4x12 cabs and don't hook 'em up. Just stack them for looks.

Re: When your band members taunt you to buy a full stack....

It's still 100 watts, no matter how many speakers it's coming out of....

Re: When your band members taunt you to buy a full stack....

I would sell it all and go direct...save your ears.

Re: When your band members taunt you to buy a full stack....

That's not really how it works

more speakers = more air moving = more volume

100 watts is 100 watts. The sound is only spread out more with more speakers, giving the perception of increased volume. The eight speakers are also working less hard than 4 alone.

Take a garden hose and turn the pressure on full blast.
Then imagine attaching eight heads to it with pressure still at full blast.
Does more water come out?
No, the original amount is just divided up 8 ways. Spreading the water out over a wider area.

Actually that's incorrect. A 100 watt amp will give you about 110dB at 10 feet with one (100dB efficient) speaker. The same configuration with eight speakers will give you about 9 more dB which is nearly twice as loud.

What I should do, is just run two 100 watt half stacks in stereo. That'll larn 'em.

I don't want to be the party pooper but there's really no reason to have so many speakers. Save your ears and your back and stick with whatever's NEEDED.

This is what you need for your rehearsal room, that might change their mind

Haha. Marvellous. Marshallous? Marshall-less?

That's always AWESOME!! I do it on occasion in my kitchen. A few years ago, I didn't feel like mowing my yard, so I paid a friend of mine to do it. He was on my riding mower, and he said he could hear me jamming in my kitchen over the mower.

Re: When your band members taunt you to buy a full stack....

That's impressive. Closest I came to that is when the pest control guy heard me jamming on my Princeton and complimented me when he dropped off the bill. I think if I had used your approach, no pesticides would have been needed and the bugs woulda dropped on their own...

LOL! over kill indeed, but it still always makes me giddy seeing a massive backline. I saw Blackfoot open for Molly Hatchet and they had a backline of Marshall stacks.. So did Yngwie. As far as what Hydro was saying about a club.. My wife and I saw Living Color in a small club and Vernon had 2 or 3 full stacks going.. Wife was deaf for about 3 weeks..

Burnin' Vernon - one of my favorites. That must have been awesome to see him play in a club.
