Where are Celestions made?

Re: Where are Celestions made?

China for the most part. I think there is a very few still produced in UK, but you'll pay for it.

Re: Where are Celestions made?

I've heard that the Heritage series is still made in the UK, but I'm not sure-
I own both UK made ones and China made ones- I can't tell a difference in sound or construction- Speakers have changed very little in over 80 years or so- it ain't rocket science.

Re: Where are Celestions made?

In addition, I think that the obnoxiously-priced alnico-blue one is also made in the UK. Don't know if that one falls in the heritage category, though...

I guess you're right Marvar. They should be able to make them anywhere and get the same results. I would think a company like Celestion would want their reputation to stay good and therefore take a lot of care setting up a new factory.
Those Blue Alnico speakers are ridiculous. They better be REALLY good sounding. - Willy

Re: Where are Celestions made?

I think by buying these speakers just encourages more companies to lose US- or UK-based jobs to outsourcing in China. Eminence, Weber and Mojo all offer US-made speakers. Mojo builds theirs with British coils. But, don't mind me. I'm on an anti-overseas kick right now. ;)

Re: Where are Celestions made?

Sorry to bring you down, Scott but I just read within the last month that Eminence is building a plant in China.

Edit: Yep, here it is: http://www.guitarplayer.com/story.asp?sectioncode=1&storycode=10650

Note, however, that they are doing it for a good reason: to provide speaker manufacturuing capacity for their OEM customers, many of whom build their equipment in Asia.
