where can I find out how to convert an el34 amp to 6l6?

I'm still thinking the Splawn, cool as it is, would sound even better with some 6l6 tubes. I've talked to Scott a couple times about what mods could be done to make it ready for the switch, but he doesn't seem to keen on divulging any useful information. So does anyone know how to perform a modification like this? Don't worry, I can drain capacitors just fine. I won't die. Promise.

Going from EL34 to 6L6 is just rebias in most cases. Going from an amp set up for 6L6 to EL34 requires some care, but the other way around is usually pretty easy. The EL34 set up will already have the needed wiring that will work with both types, and big enough grid stoppers. The 6L6 also draws less heater current so no problem there. As long as you can bias the 6L6s no mods are usually needed coming from EL34. If the bias range is too far out it may require some mods to the bias circuit to bring it within range to bias.

Other options are 6CA7's and KT77 for a more 6L6 response along with the EL34B you mentioned.

I would try some good Philips/Sylvania 6CA7 if you want more of a 6L6/7581A kinda tone...I use them in an old Traynor and they are a lot beefier than the EL34.

On my JTM45 I have gone back and forth between EL34 and KT66 quite a bit. However running the 30 watt plate dissapation 6L6GC or 7581's types, they can just barely be biased without any mods.
