Where can I get a bone nut for 10" radius Allparts Strat neck?

Hey guys,

I'm building a Strat using a warmoth body I have and I picked up an Allparts neck for it, however it does not have a nut.

The neck is 10", and while I would have liked 9.5", it's 10" and I can't seem to find a 10" radius pre-slotted nut for it. I do not have the files or experience necessary to do it myself.

Any help would be great! Thanks guys

AFAIK, that part does not exist pre-made. It might be out there somewhere, but I have sure never seen it. Just get a 9-1/2" one; it's close enough. I wouldn't even bother reslotting one of those for the 10" radius. The difference is incredibly small.

Much better than bone, IMO

They do pre-slotted ones and have different variants of Nuts for Strats and LP's and what not.

Why do you say much better than bone? In my experience (nearly 55 years of playing and modding/building guitars) I haven't found anything better than good quality bone for nuts...tone, durability, sustain, aesthetics.

It could be that the bone nuts I have used were not a good quality.
When I tried out Tusq, I replaced a stock bone nut, and it sounded 10x's better: more projection, more sustain...etc.
I never did a side-by-side comparison though.
But yah, I have only used allparts bone nuts, or whatever came on guitars that I have bought.

If your Tusq nut..."sounded 10x's better: more projection, more sustain...etc.", all I can say is you had a very poorly cut bone nut to begin with.

There's certainly nothing wrong with opinions.

I hope yours is at least changing regarding bone nuts. Get one done by someone who knows what he's doing and you'll begin love bone nuts. There is a reason they are the Cadillac of the industry.

I think I'm ready to concede all ready. I checked out some comparison vids on acoustic guitars since my last comment, bone vs tusq, and bone does sound more warm and vibrant/ALIVE for lack of a better description.
Tusq seemed to boost my highs, but still lacked a "presence" from what I heard on the videos.

You could just buy a 9.5" radius nut, take some 150 or so grit sandpaper, place the sandpaper up against the fretboard, and just glide the nut over the sand paper. That way the nut radius will match the fretboard radius exactly, and it should be fairly quick and easy - just don't take too much off. Only sand a tiny bit before checking, and repeat until it is just right. You may want to buy two nuts just in case you make any mistakes on the first one.

I can attest to preferring bone over TUSQ if done properly. However, there is not good shop near me that can do that. I can slot a nut easily though, so I just go with TUSQ for my purposes.
