Where do we stand on the Boss FZ-2 Hyper Fuzz?

I recently got one at a real good price (relatively) after spending years making due with an SF300

Anyone else have one or thoughts about them?

I love the FZ-2!

I've played the original a few times, but can't justify the price they often go for now. Should've stocked up years ago!

The SF300 pulls off the sound, as you know, but the build quality is lacking.

I currently have a Magic Pedals "Witchfinder", a Peper's Pedals "Humongous Fuzz", and a PSHC FZ-2, which are all based on the Boss FZ-2 Hyper Fuzz.

I've actually been bugging one of my favorite newer pedal builders, Moth Electric, to consider trying his hand at the FZ-2 circuit since I love his approach to pedal design and his aesthetic would look great in that distinctive silver/black flavor!

The FZ-2 is supposed to be based on the Univox Super Fuzz, isn't it? My favourite fuzz is also based on that circuit, which makes me think it's probably pretty awesome.

The sf300 is handful mods away from being the fz2. The only thing common between the fz2 & univox is the two voice selections.

The boost feature is the best thing about the fz2, other than that its fuzz sound is not that useful for wide range of music styles.

Keep it, flip it if the prices jump up.

Yeah, I think it's probably only ever gonna go up. Apparently Boss tried to use the FZ-1w as a replacement for a possible FZ-2w because some of the parts were too hard to source to make a re-release that is as true to the original as they wanted it to be.

Everything I've read seems to indicate that the circuit for the FZ-2 is based on the super fuzz:

"Based on", yes, but I believe the Boss version is heavily modified with additional transistors, active tone controls, etc.

It's a much more aggressive, yet versatile setup than the O.G. Super Fuzz.
