Where do you send you necks for refret?

Something Cool
Refret where? I only need frets to be cut, bent and put in, plus a side sanding. I do the leveling and crowning myself.

My scalloped neck has too large frets, need to replace with something reasonable.

John Westcott in North Hollywood, California. As good as they come, and reasonable. Click Here for his website.

If you`re already leveling and crowning yourself, the step to full refrets isn`t large, nor does it require significant investment. I did my first fretjobs with a pair of side cutters, a modified bastard file (2/3 and 1/3 length and no handles), a triangular keyfile, a rubber hammer, a soldering iron, and a razor blade. The wire is soft enough to be bent by hand, and can be easily cut. ;)

If I can do it, anyone can. At least give it a try. You might surprise yourself.

I know it is a bit of a trip for you but Pat DiBurro is the best in New England. I typically ship my guitars to him and he ships back. I have made the road trip to the shop in the past. Pat's client list reads like a whos-who of the music industry, his work is unmatched. Sometimes if is a bit difficult getting on his calendar the guy is usually swamped. If you would like I will make an introduction.

What I like most about Pat is if you are in the shop when he is working on the guitar he shows you how he is making the repairs. It is like taking a luthier master class.

Allright, so what do I need and where is the best place to get it?

Fret cutter? http://www.stewmac.com/shopby/product/0619 Do I need that or will the sanding on the side of the neck take care of that. What's that sanding called, anyway, and do I do it on a one-piece maple neck with paint on the fretboard? Or do I just use a file on the side of the frets.

I think I'll overall get by with bending by hand. Pulling is not an issue since the frets are kinda loose anyway :D

I have satisfactory leveling blocks and the stewmac crowning files. I don't have anything for the side of the frets.

Where do I get actual Dunlop fret fire?
