Where to Order Shop Floor Custom?

Greetings all,

Where can one order a Shop Floor Custom Pickup these days?

I searched the forum and it looks like the most recent thread on the topic is from about 4 years ago. Banjo Mikez was, at one time, frequently mentioned but it looks like he is no longer a Duncan dealer.

If you're in the San Diego area of SoCal, you can order them at Moze guitars in La Mesa.

Hopefully. I emailed my sales rep and asked. He's out of the office until Monday.

I believe they can, so long as they are willing.

Unfortunately my local SD dealer is (likely) the worst Guitar Center on planet earth. Giving them my business is a hard "no" for me.

Go to any online authorized dealer. They can order for you and have it shipped right to you. BTW, the Shop Floor Custom program comes up in threads every few days or so. I don't think I'd go through Guitar Center even though technically they can do it...it doesn't mean they will do it right.

The quality of a Guitar Scenter is, (unfortunately), determined by who works there. One of the head guys at my local GC, came over there from being the brewmaster at my favorite local brewery. They're a pretty competent group. YMMV.

(He's the guy I'm trying to work the Mustang deal with.)

I wish we had a better crew in my area.

20+ years ago i worked at a gc for a few years, we had a really good crew. seems like thats pretty rare these days

Found some by not searching titles only. Appears to be a slow process and, in the thread I was reading, the buyer was not pleased with the results. I'll just build my own.

The Floor Shop I ordered was maybe a month from order to delivery. Shop I deal with hadnt been SD dealer for very long and went seamless. Granted what I requested was a pretty simple request, black nickle cover on a Black Winter neck.

I just placed a "Shop Floor Custom" order (Classic Stack Plus neck & middle and Vintage Hot Stack Plus bridge - Parchment with NO LOGO) with my Sweetwater rep, Brandon Buckley. It was a lot easier than I expected, really.

I emailed my request to him and he got back letting me know he needed to get formal quote from Duncan. It took a few days to get the quote back, but the pricing wasn't bad at all. It ended up about 10% higher than the off-the-shelf price, but much less than a full-blown Custom Shop order.

He said it could be 4-6 weeks before I receive the pickups. I'll try to remember to re-post when they come in to let y'all know how it went, though the update will most likely be in the form of a "Happy NGD to me" thread

I emailed an eBay seller Squid Music who has many varieties of colors of Duncan pickups and he orders Shop Floor Custom pickups but said the 2 DD sets I asked of he could order, he said with Duncan's new policy they will only do an order if you order 5 sets.

I was just wanting a DD set to look like the DD 8 string version that has the matte black bobbins and black nickel screws and slugs with the black SD logo.

The other set was basically just a "blackened" DD set with the matte bobbins and black hex poles with a black logo.

Is it worth contacting Sweetwater to see if they could do this with these 2 sets without having to order 5 sets each?

I'd contact Sweetwater. I had not heard that the policy has changed, and the website for Shop Floor Customs is still there.

just got a very similar response from squid music. bit of a bummer to be honest. hopefully a different store can help me out, although if this is a new duncan policy that would be less than ideal for me.
